“A simple thought seemed to have the power to change our world.”
— The Intention Experiment, Lynne McTaggart
In our profession, witnessing injustice has sadly become a daily occurrence—especially when we find ourselves before lay magistrates in court. It’s hard not to compare the Hong Kong we once knew to the one we face today. Even with professional judges, there are moments that make you want to shout, “Are you f*ing kidding me?”
Lately, the news has been a relentless stream of heartbreak—stories like Wang Wang and his family, and countless other voiceless animals suffering in Mainland China. The pain feels endless.
I ache to do something, but I’m often left paralyzed by a sense of helplessness. Acts of kindness feel so small, so fragile in the face of it all. Deep down, I know that in China, not only are cats and dogs denied dignity, but so many human lives are even more heartbreakingly neglected than Wang Wang’s.
If you were to ask me now—after everything we have endured in recent years—whether I believe humanity is fundamentally good or evil, I would have to say: human nature too often leans toward darkness. That’s precisely why enlightenment, compassion, and education are so crucial. Civilization and democracy are born from the lessons written in blood, sweat, and tears. Every sacrifice must be honored with meaning and purpose.
We speak out, because silence only breeds more silence. If we don’t live by our values, who will? We must show the world that being a good person is nothing to be afraid of.
People may question your motives, call you naïve, or dismiss your hope as fantasy. Still—don’t let fear win. It takes real courage, conscience, and wisdom to choose goodness. To be a good person is an act of strength. Be someone who brings hope, joy, and comfort to others. Even the faintest light can guide lost souls through darkness.
“A group of minds aligned in a single intent has a far greater effect than a single mind alone. Even a small group of people, with a high degree of focused intensity, can produce significant results.”
— The Intention Experiment, Lynne McTaggart
The more of us who carry that light, the brighter our collective future becomes, and the closer we move toward a world of real goodness.
Forgive me for sharing this again, but every month, we donate to help animals. This month, after Wang Wang’s tragedy, I feel compelled to do more—and I hope we won’t be alone in this any longer.
Our First Edition (with misprints) 2027 Datebook was created as a humble gift for our clients. I am no designer—our only aim was to preserve history. Our CIC members poured their hearts into refining it (none of us are professionals); it may not win design awards, but it’s filled with genuine care and intention.
