With the UK enjoying another stretch of warm weather, it’s a good moment to share something brilliant that’s been making a real difference for older patients at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Last year, thanks to £4,800 of funding, we were able to install six mini freezers on wards to store something pretty special – N-ICE Cream® 🍦
Developed right here in Nottingham by Professor Opinder Sahota and the clinical team at NUH, this award-winning ice cream isn’t just a treat – it’s packed with protein and key nutrients to help tackle malnutrition in older patients.
It’s been designed for people who struggle with traditional hospital meals or find standard nutritional drinks unappealing, giving them something cooling, tasty, and genuinely beneficial.
Flavours include vanilla, strawberry, salted caramel and mint and with hot weather like we’re seeing now, making sure patients stay nourished is even more important.
We’re proud that this idea, developed locally, is now being used in everyday care – helping some of our most vulnerable patients get the nutrition they need in a way that works for them.
If you’d like to support more projects like this, your donations really do go a long way!
