Congratulations to our friends at Bombil on East Street, Bedminster! 🎉

On Monday night in London, Bombil was crowned South West Restaurant of the Year at the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards. That’s quite something for a restaurant that only opened in September 2024.

We deliver fresh chef jackets and aprons to Bombil and its four sister restaurants in the Nutmeg Group, so this one feels close to home. Raja and the team have earned it.

Twelve years ago this month, Ana Chimu walked into our Yeovil laundry for her first shift as a Production Operative.

She is now a Production Manager, running the same floor she started on. Along the way, she married a colleague, had two children and bought a first home.

What she enjoys most is the team. "Seeing how we are all different, but at the same time, how well we work together."

Congratulations Ana, and thank you for twelve years. Her full story is on our website. https://www.cleanservices.co.uk/employee-spotlight-ana-chimu

Two Silver medals came home this month, and they belong to every site.

CLEAN has won Silver for Carbon Reduction and Silver for Community Engagement at the 2026 Commonwealth Environment & CSR Awards, run by The Green Organisation alongside this year's Commonwealth Games.

The entries were built from the work our colleagues do every day. Transport teams reworking routes. Production teams cutting waste and cardboard. Sites organising their own fundraising through the Silver Lining Programme, including a donation to Every Cloud Play and Creative Arts Therapy CIC for children's mental health support.

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in it.

Have a look at the medals and give the team a well-deserved cheer in the comments.

Sean Farrell starts loading at 4:30 in the morning.

He has been with us since 2015 and is now a senior driver at our Camberley laundry. His shift opens with a full vehicle check before anything moves, then a delivery to Heathrow, back to Camberley to reload, and a run of drops through central London.

The early hour has a reason. Hotels need their clean linen in the housekeeping store before the morning changeover starts.

Sean says:
"The volume goes up in August, but the job doesn't change. Check the vehicle, know your route, and get there when you said you would."

We have written up what a day in August looks like across our teams. Have a read https://www.cleanservices.co.uk/media/behind-the-summer-peak-the-clean-teams-keeping-deliveries-moving-in-august

Those little symbols inside your workwear? They mean more than you might think.

Every piece of certified protective workwear carries a set of pictograms on its label. A vest symbol for high visibility. A flame symbol for heat and flame protection. Each one tells you exactly what the garment is certified to protect against, and the numbers next to it indicate the level of protection it provides.

But here is the important bit: that protection does not last forever on its own. Sunlight, dirt, and repeated washing slowly wear down a hi-vis jacket's visibility. Washing a flame-retardant kit the wrong way or using fabric softener can quietly reduce the protection it was designed to provide. A garment can look fine and still no longer do its job.
Looking after protective workwear properly is not optional. It is what keeps your team genuinely protected, shift after shift.

Not sure what your labels mean? Book a free workwear compliance check, and we will go through your garments with you. Call 0330 818 7008.

This Sunday is International Linen and Uniform Service Day, and it belongs to our teams.

9 August marks the day in 1910 that the first electric washing machine was patented. The day itself was established in 2021 to recognise the people who kept hospitals, food producers and essential businesses supplied throughout the pandemic.

At CLEAN, that means the production teams on the sorting, washing and finishing lines, the engineers who keep the site running, whatever happens to the power, and the drivers covering routes across England and Wales in all weather. Our drivers are usually the only people from CLEAN a customer sees each week, and a good one spots a hotel running short on linen before it becomes a problem.

We have been doing this since 1886. It has always come down to people turning up and getting it right.

If you work in linen, workwear or laundry, the day is yours. Thank your driver, or share this with someone who has earned it.

We are heading into that lovely part of the year where summer events are still going strong, but the autumn calendar is starting to fill up too. And as it does, we always see planners reaching for slightly deeper, richer colours.

Oxford Blue is one of our favourites for exactly this moment. It feels formal and confident, and it works beautifully for evening events where you want the table to look its best under softer lighting.

We love it with Arctic White for a sharp, classic look, or with Honeycomb Gold for a little more warmth and occasion. It also makes a wonderful runner over an ivory cloth.

Available to hire now across napkins, runners, and tablecloths. As always, free swatch cards are available if you would like to see them in person.

Are you starting to plan your autumn events yet? We would love to hear what is in the diary.

There's a scanner at the end of our food trade line, and every garment goes past it.

It logs which garment it is, which customer it belongs to, the size, locker number and which wash cycle it went through. A small thing on the day. It's the difference between a food factory answering an auditor's question in about a minute and spending a morning hunting for paperwork.

Our food production customers have that record for every coat, every week.

If that's a headache you recognise, have a look at our food workwear service on the website.

25kg of dirt a year. That is what 100 people a day walk into a building.

And vacuuming only lifts about a tenth of it. The rest gets carried around on shoes, into every room, all year.
A good mat catches it at the door. Ours get collected, laundered and swapped for fresh ones on a set schedule, so they carry on catching it.

Give us a ring on 0330 818 7008 if your floors are taking a battering.

Shaken, not stirred. Our team scrubbed up well for the UKHA Summer Ball at Oulton Hall in Leeds.

The UK Housekeepers Association - Yorkshire & North East went full James Bond for this year's ball on 3rd July, and our Special Occasion Linen team supplied the table linen for the night. Karen, Sue, Paul, Emie-Jo and Paul flew the flag for CLEAN, and our goodie bag gift, a CLEAN phone charger to power up laundry supply, gave a first peek at our new Nottingham Laundry, opening very soon.

Best of all, the night's raffle raised funds for Hospitality Action, the charity supporting hospitality people across the UK.
Congratulations to the UKHA on a brilliant evening.

Spend an hour on one of our production floors, and you'll see a quiet rhythm.

Loads moving. Checks happening. Conveyors humming.

What you won't catch unless you listen: the team never stops talking.
A note about a hotel's linen preferences. A check on a workwear order running tight on time.

It looks calm because of the conversation running underneath it.
That's not by accident. That's how standards hold when volume spikes.

Which team in your life works like this, steady on the surface because of everything happening beneath it?

Ever wondered what happens to a hotel sheet or towel when it's seen better days?
Honestly, it depends on what it's got left in it.

Sheets that are still usable often get a second life in industrial wipe production. Others are sorted by fibre for recycling where the market exists. And towels? If they've still got some life left, we'd rather they go somewhere they're genuinely needed, so we donate to local organisations, including dog rehoming centres, which feels like a far better ending than a skip.

We won't pretend we've got it all figured out. Hotel linen recycling is genuinely harder than workwear; the fibre blends are trickier, and the economics of recycling are still catching up. For our workwear, we now work with Avena Group, a specialist in secure textile recycling, and in our first year across two sites, the programme saved an estimated 5,457 kg CO2e from going to landfill. That's the equivalent of around 260 trees absorbing carbon for a whole year, or 5–6 return flights from London to New York.

Extending that approach to linen is next on the roadmap, and we're working towards it.

In the meantime, we'd rather make thoughtful decisions about every item that leaves our system than default to the easiest option.

Got questions about how we handle specific items? Ask below, we're happy to talk through it. 👇

Guests may forget the welcome, but they remember the bed. In the first moments of entering a hotel room, the bed's crisp linen and weight signal the quality of their stay. The same goes for restaurants; clean tables and pressed napkins enhance the experience before even opening the menu.

Our linen collections, including Oria, Isabella, and Lucia, maintain their quality wash after wash due to a consistent laundering process. As summer approaches, that consistency is crucial for hospitality businesses.

Behind every fresh uniform, there is a process built around doing things properly.

We were proud to see our Safety and Sustainability Development Manager, Kate Karlinska-Peshawaria, take to the stage at a recent Textile Services Association (TSA) industry conference to talk about CLEAN's Carbon Journey.

Kate shared the targets we have set for ourselves, the improvements we are making to our water and energy use, and how we report our progress honestly and transparently.

We know that the people wearing our customers' workwear rely on it to do their jobs well. That is why we pay close attention to how we operate, not just for efficiency, but because it matters.

This year, we have continued to reduce our water and energy use, cut transport emissions, and work with our suppliers to understand the full picture of our environmental impact. We do this because our customers are being asked harder questions about sustainability, and we want to be the kind of partner who helps them answer them with confidence.

It is steady, unglamorous work. But we think that is exactly what a reliable service partner should be doing.
Curious about how CLEAN supports your sustainability goals? Drop us a message, and we will be happy to chat.

We want to take a moment to celebrate two people who have worked really hard this year.

This week is Learning at Work Week 2026, and here at CLEAN, we are taking the opportunity to shine a light on the journeys happening right across our business.

Freddie Carney, based at our Slough site, has just qualified as an HGV driver after completing a six-month bootcamp funded through local government, delivered in partnership with PDT Fleet Training. It was a significant commitment, exams, practical sessions, and formal assessments, and Freddie saw it through with determination and the support of his team around him.

Freddie told us: "I'm really proud to have passed my HGV test. It took hard work and determination, and I'm grateful I stuck with it. This is a big step forward for me, and I'm excited for what's next."

And Angus Mitchell, who joined CLEAN back in 2019, has just completed a Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketing apprenticeship alongside his full-time role, achieving a Distinction. He is now working as Marketing Campaigns Manager.

Behind both of these stories are managers, colleagues, training partners, and family members who played their part. That support network is something we are proud of.

Congratulations, Freddie and Angus. You have both earned it.

Learning looks different for everyone. But it is always worth it.

We would love to hear from colleagues across CLEAN about what learning has looked like for you this year. Share your story in the comments or speak to your manager about what your next step could be.

This week, we want to take a moment to talk about the people behind the work.

Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 11 to 17 May 2026, and this year's theme is ACTION.

At CLEAN, we believe looking after our people is part of doing our job well. Every day, our teams work hard in hospitals, care homes, and facilities across the country. The least we can do is make sure they feel supported while they do it.

That's why we have Mental Health First Aiders on every site, colleagues who are trained to listen, to spot when someone might be struggling, and to help them find the right support without any pressure or judgement.

We also give all our people access to Wisdom, a confidential Employee Assistance Programme with qualified counsellors available any time of the day or night, whatever is going on in their lives.

Around one in five adults in the UK lives with a common mental health condition. None of us are immune to life's pressures, and we don't think anyone should have to face them alone.

If you or your team would like to mark the week, the Mental Health Foundation is encouraging everyone to wear something green this Thursday, 14 May, for Wear it Green Day. It's a small gesture, but visible ones matter.

Meet Naomi, one of the people who keeps CLEAN running behind the scenes.

Nearly five years ago, Naomi Howell joined our Cheltenham team in a part-time support role. Today, she is a full-time fleet specialist and an essential part of how we operate day to day.

From managing fleet administration and insurance claims to leading a company-wide driver risk project, Naomi's role touches almost every corner of our transport operations. She works closely with external partners, supports transport managers across the business, and is currently working towards her Transport Managers CPC qualification.

No two days look the same, and that suits her perfectly.

Outside of work, Naomi is a mum of two, a dog owner, a diamond art enthusiast, and she attended Stephen Hawking's memorial service.

We are proud to have people like Naomi on the team. They are the reason our customers can rely on us.

Know someone who would thrive in a role like this? Take a look at what we have available at CLEAN.
