Last May, we posted an update on our findings from our soil material burying experiment.

From the results of that first round, we wanted to dive deeper and buried the following 11 products within our range:

๐Ÿ”นPolyester (used as a control)
๐Ÿ”นCotton Linen ribbon
๐Ÿ”นTencel ribbon
๐Ÿ”นTencel cord
๐Ÿ”นCotton ribbon (50/50 conventional/recycled)
๐Ÿ”นCotton (100% recycled)
๐Ÿ”นPaper ribbon (Herringbone)
๐Ÿ”นPaper cord (Knitted)
๐Ÿ”นPaper Tubular ribbon
๐Ÿ”นPaper ribbon (0.2mm)
๐Ÿ”นBamboo ribbon

After 7 months underground, we are delighted to confirm that out of the 11 buried samples, 8 completely disappeared. The Polyester (used as a control) and the Tencel- cord were the only 2 materials that did not show any sign of disintegration.

Although the Tencel ribbon did disappear, the Tencel cord is denser due to it being twisted, which will slow the rate of disintegration. The cotton linen (picture 3) had started to show signs of disintegration and discolouration.
We are extremely committed to our work on sustainable ribbons, and we will continue to update you with any future burials and their results!

A big thank you to our Head of Sustainability, Stacy Gilbert, for doing this experiment for us!

Note: This experiment was performed in the UK by Cole Fabrics, and no home composting standard was followed. The materials were buried in an approx. 50:50 mixture of peat-free compost and soil.

As we begin 2026, itโ€™s always important to take a moment to reflect on the year just gone. With that in mind, weโ€™ve recently wrapped up our customer feedback survey for 2025. โญ๏ธ๐Ÿ“Š

As in previous years, we asked our customers to rate their experience with Cole Fabrics on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 1 being poor and 5 being excellent), alongside sharing their honest feedback.

Last Thursday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day in the office to support Save the Children๐ŸŽ„

It was a great day filled with some wonderfully whacky jumpers, festive spirit, and plenty of smiles, all for a brilliant cause.

Weโ€™re really proud to say that we raised ยฃ125 to help support children around the world.
