The Designers

Vanhu Vamwe was founded by Zimbabwean born husband and wife duo Simba Nyawiri and Pam Samasuwo-Nyawiri. Both with a creative flair and a love for design and community, they set out to collectively understand global design. Pam then jumped ship from a career in journalism and went back to university to study ‘Fashion Accessory Design’, specialising in leather luxury goods, further pr

ogressing to do a PhD to explore and create a framework around 'Care in Design' supported by a theory of 'Putting People First'. This was particularly structured for Design Practitioners working with rural artisans in marginalised communities. To date, VV designers are Multi Award Winners, with internationally acclaimed awards and recognition, speaking on many platforms on issues of sustainability, social innovation and exit strategies in artisan communities.

There is something deeply meaningful about seeing work created by our Zimbabwean artisans travel across the world and find a place in one of Paris’ most iconic retail destinations.

From 17 June to 8 July 2026, we are honoured to be a part of the AFRICA NOW Pop-Up at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann , in partnership with .

When people see our bags, they often see the finished piece. What they do not always see are the hands behind it. The women who have spent years mastering techniques, supporting families and carrying knowledge from one generation to the next.

This pop-up is an opportunity to celebrate the stories behind VANHU VAMWE.

We were built on a simple belief that people matter and every collection reflects that belief. Every piece represents skill, time and human connection.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to share our work and to stand alongside African foremost brands who also demonstrate the depth, creativity and excellence found across our continent.

If you are visiting Paris, we would love for you to stop by and experience the collection for yourself.

Since we started doing macrame bags, we cut off the branding as seen on our leather bags. We wanted to change the idea of ‘ownership’ of our accessory’s. We wanted you all to fall so deeply in love with your bags and steer away from thinking of it as a VV bag but YOURS... It worked for that time and even our retailers loved our interpretation and we even gave them free rein on placing their own logos on our bags. Fast forward, as you scale up, the story remains the same, but copy cats were not stopping... And it was finally important for us to review our no branding policy. Many thanks to our friend and trusted retailer of , who hassled our creative directors & to finally look into branding seriously! It’s still a little strange, but definitely elevates the bags AND AND..... you should see the branding and FIXTURES on the new collection.. 😉.💕💕💕
