Nearly finished on my star dress, after a while I find it difficult to tell if I like a piece any more, being too close to it I see the things I would have done differently. Each dress is unique so I never get into mass production.

I have finished the panels of my star dress at last, Now all I have to do is make the dress up.

Pattern for my Stars dress.
Some amazing Japanese fashion historians and technicians, who sadly I can't cite because I don't read Japanese,created patterns lifted from a number of Vionnet Dresses.
So far so exciting, using the Book, and Google translate mmm... ,some time later Google translate was no help.
I drafted one of the patterns, but it's size 4 and created for no bust. Back to the drawing board literally. Reengineering the pattern in a size 10 and a bigger bust made it quite different but it works.

Vionnet allegedly draped on models but that might have been just for the photos. She was one of the first designers to have proper look books though.

You can get gorgeous 3D Briar Roses for wedding dresses but I felt they weren't right for this period.
I've spent a happy hour or two researching Callot Soeur, Gustav Beer, Worth and many unknown on Pinterest.

One of my most favourite Brides, no disrespect to all the others. I have had the huge pleasure of being involved with and dressing Grace, her Mum Dawn and her sister Mimi, a family of strong, joyful women.

Grace and Paco have been married just over a year and I am so rubbish I never got round to posting some heavenly shots by Martin Beddell.

Grace's dress is an Original Replica I created for her using an Original Pattern.
It was a very collaborative process.
Her gown is made of Silk satin Organza which had a good amount of shimmer and body.
I researched how to make 1930s silk satin flowers, creating Roses, Faux orange blossom, and Myrtle.
For Love, Fecundity and Fidelity.
The leaves are gold silk organza.
