Crùbag is a Scotland-based interdisciplinary textile design studio and materials innovation lab merging ocean sciences and art. Our mission is to celebrate our planet, promote marine science education and the sustainable use of the ocean. To do that, we collaborate with marine scientists and develop artful textile collections and new materials paired with their ocean-literacy stories focusing on u

nseen natural aesthetics, sustainability and the blue economy. We envision a better, more connected world where humans are not separate from nature but a part of the ecosystem.

Happy St Andrew's Day from everyone at SAMS! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Did you know that SAMS has its own tartan? It's a way for us to share our values and celebrate our enviable research location on the west coast of Scotland, on the shores of the deep Atlantic ocean.

The SAMS Ocean Explorer tartan's dominant medium blue represents the global ocean, while the light blue stands for clean water and air. The white symbolises Scotland’s connection with, and SAMS’ research expertise in, the Arctic while the yellow represents biodiversity and oceanographic technologies. The purple recognises SAMS’ deep commitment to the community, to education and to the founding partnership with UHI, while the bright green stands for SAMS’ mission for a sustainable ocean future where human society is in harmony with nature.

You can even buy tartan products through the the Crùbag website. Proceeds from any sales go towards our marine science research and outreach efforts. https://crubag.co.uk/
