We usually meet on the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 to 15:00 at Oxford Central Library.

The next meeting of the Oxford branch will be on Saturday 6th June. Our free meetings take place in the Community Space of the Oxford Westgate Library between 11.00 and 3.00 and are open to everyone. Whether you are a member or not, an experienced crafter or a beginner, you will be welcome. We are allowed to eat our lunch in the room. The meeting usually starts with social time, and show and tell. We try to provide an optional workshop from 1.30 onwards. This month we are offering beginners crochet, so if you have been wanting to give it a try, please come along. Please bring some DK yarn and a 4mm hook if you have one.

This months free meeting will be on Saturday 2nd May, between 11.00 and 3.00 in the Community Space on the first floor of Westgate Library, next to the piano. Everyone welcome.
The morning will be a general social meeting including show and tell and any help that people need. We are able to eat lunch in the room.
At 1.30, Linde Merrick will be giving an optional workshop on the entrelac knitting technique. If you wish to take part please bring two contrasting colours of the same thickness yarn and needles suitable for that yarn.

Our free to all branch meeting this month will be on Saturday 4th April. We meet at the Westgate Library, Oxford, in the Community space on the 1st floor next to the piano, between 11.00 and 3.00. Our meeting this month will be a social meeting with show and tell, so do bring your projects to show us , especially if you are looking for a little help. You are welcome to bring or buy lunch, which can be eaten in the room.
The photo is of one of my current projects, called Ribbon Socks by Svetlana Kochkina, which are crocheted using 4ply yarn and use short row techniques for the shaping. They look narrow, but are very stretchy.

Our free to all branch meeting this month will be on Saturday 6th March. We meet at the Westgate Library, Oxford, in the Community space on the 1st floor next to the piano, between 11.00 and 3.00. Before lunch (which you are welcome to eat in the room) is a social meeting with show and tell.
At 1.30 we try to have an optional workshop. This month you are invited to try mosaic knitting. This is a wonderful way to get colours onto your knitting whilst knitting with one colour at a time. If you can cast on and work a knit stitch, you can do this. We will show you how to cast off. If you would like to join in please bring two colours of yarn, one light and one dark, and suitable needles. We look forward to seeing you. Our December meeting is fast approaching, just like Christmas!

We would like to create a haven of peace at this busy time of year, so it will be a social meeting with show and tell on a theme of Christmas decorations and food following on from the recent episode of Game of Wool. There will be mince pies too. I found this tree spinner pattern on a you tube video by Crochet Craftsman, although there are several variations around. Bring yarn and needles / hooks if you would like to have a go. If you bring DK, use a 3.00mm hook, 2.5mm for 4ply. You will need something like a button or bell to hang on the bottom.

For anyone new, we meet on the first Saturday of the month at Westgate Library, on the first floor in the Community Space next to the piano. The meeting runs between 11.00 and 3.00, and we are allowed to eat lunch in the room. The meeting is free and open to members and non members of any ability.

We had a wonderful time at our September branch meeting and thoroughly enjoyed Jacky’s excellent workshop on knitting complicated cables.

We had such a good time in fact that we’ve decided to have a KAL (knitalong) over the autumn to practise the techniques learned.

We will be using Lucy Hague’s ‘Dunedin’ shawl pattern to try out our newfound skills, with Jacky’s expert advice on hand each month to offer guidance and support.

Our October meeting (Saturday 4/10; 11.00-3.00, Westgate Library) will give us the opportunity to review the pattern (you’ll need to have purchased a copy beforehand), discuss our yarn choices, and hear Jacky’s top tips. If you’d like to get started, we recommend knitting the first 46 rows of the pattern.

If you missed September’s meeting, worry not: Jacky will be on hand to answer questions and demo the cables.

We hope you will all feel as excited about this as we do but, of course, there’s no obligation to join in.

If you haven't been to meetings before the Community Space is on the first floor of the library, next to the piano. The meeting is free, open to all abilities, and we are able to have lunch in the room. We usually work on our own projects until 1.30, and then we start our workshops, but they are always optional and you are welcome to continue as before and listen in.

The Oxford Branch monthly meeting will be on Saturday 6th September in the Community Space at Westgate Library, Oxford. The room is on the first floor next to the piano. The meeting starts at 11.00, and we are allowed to eat lunch in the room. Whatever your ability, you will be welcome at this free meeting. We try to have a free workshop every month which starts at 1.30 and this is optional if you would prefer to keep working on your own project. This month the subject is "Complicated Cables" given by Jacky Ridgill, details below, We look forward to seeing you.

Complicated Cables

Have you ever seen the most beautiful cabled project but just didn’t know where to start? Come along to our workshop and discuss how cable stitches are changing, and the problems that causes with charts and instructions for the designers, and for you. Then have a go at the sort of stitches that are becoming more common, knitting a small sample and acquiring an arsenal of helpful techniques.

It would be helpful if you could start the sample beforehand. Weight of yarn is up to you but the finer it is, the harder it will be to see what is going on, so I suggest dk or aran with appropriate needles. You will need a cable needle. At one point you will need to use two cable needles at once, but if you only have one bring it and share with a friend. Cast on 27 sts. Knit a few rows, with some in a stitch to stop rolling if you wish. You will need stocking stitch before starting the pattern and should have the wrong side facing ready to start the sample pattern.

The KCG Oxford Branch meeting will be held next Saturday 7 June in the Westgate Library’s Community Space from 11am – 3pm.

This month we thought we would tell each other about our favourite knitting and crochet books. Do bring along your most recent purchases and we can all share in the pleasure of looking through them, whilst enjoying our projects and the chat!

We are allowed lunch in our room, which is on the first floor next to the Piano. The meeting is open to non members and free.

The next meeting of the Oxford Branch of the Knitting & Crochet Guild will be on Saturday 3rd May. We meet in the Community Space at the Library in Westgate, on the first floor next to the piano. All are welcome to our free meeting between 11.00 and 3.00, and we are allowed to eat lunch in the room. Before lunch is the time for general show and tell, get help or just work on your own projects. At 1.30 we aim to provide some sort of optional workshop. This month it will be a demonstration of the Hague Linking machine. Useful to both hand and machine knitters, this makes joining your knitted garments very easy and quick, as well as having some decorative uses. There should be time for people to have a go, so if you would like to please bring along a few small pieces of knitting, say 10 sts and 20 rows, in stocking or garter stitch, any yarn between 4ply and double knitting. Also bring some spare yarn if you wish to join with that. We look forward to seeing you there.
