So pleased to be able to share this one with you now that it has been to its wedding.

It’s not the design that I originally agreed with the mother-of-the-groom. A dye lot variation on the sinamay forced a redesign to use crin for the hat trimmings and if I’m honest I think the design change is even nicer than the hat we had originally planned. It looked stunning on my client when she wore it to her son’s wedding.

Today’s the Day, it’s the Save Susie from the laptop sale!

Can you be the forever head for one of the hats, hatinators and fascinators in the sale? Everything is at least half price and there are some bargains to be had.

I’m estimating that listing the magnificent millinery I have in the sale is going to take me at least three weeks (and that’s if I do nothing but list hats for 3 weeks!) That’s time I’d much rather spend creating new work.

On average it probably takes me 2 - 3 hours to list one piece on my website. That includes photographing the hats, editing the photos, looking at the website with a puzzled look on my face trying to remember what buttons I need to press to add hats to it, watching instruction videos on how to list on things on a website, going to buy chocolate and jelly babies to get me through it, and having a moan to my friends and family about how I don’t do tech!

I think these are the biggest sale bargain - sinamay hatinators that I usually sell for £200+ starting at £80. I must be mad (but all the best people are slightly bonkers!) but I’d rather they found a forever head on Saturday than me taking forever to list them on my website!

What an amazing week of millinery I’ve had at Gartmore House - Arts & Crafts Holidays It was an absolute joy to have three fantastic ‘Introduction to Millinery’ students join me on an adventure in millinery and allow me to share my skills and knowledge with them. Over the course of the week, 8 gorgeous hats were started and completed. Looking at the finished pieces it’s incredible to think that these are the first blocked hats they have made. I’m so incredibly proud of my students work and the way they each showed their own creativity as they trimmed and decorated their hats.

Day 1 was all about blocking hats, and once I’d taught the students the skills they needed to block sinamay they were blocking confidently. In a first for my course at Gartmore I offered students the opportunity to make a fabric covered hat and we also made some bases with fosshape ready to cover with Harris Tweed later in the week.

Day 2 we got the hats off the blocks and wired our bases, and made bias binding strips from sinamay. And we began exploring design ideas.

Days 3 and 4 were all about trimming and decorating their hats. In addition on Day 3, I demonstrated sinamay flower making and on Day 4 I demonstrated preparing feathers and making feather mounts.

Thank you to all the team at Gartmore for providing a fantastic venue for crafting holidays and for looking after us so well all week.

It was an absolute pleasure to start and on your millinery journey. Your enthusiasm made teaching you a joy and I can’t wait to see what you make next.

Forever heads needed for hats and fascinators!

I’ve realised that it’ll take me forever to list all my ready-to-wear hats on my website, and those of you who have been following my adventures in millinery for a while all know I’d much rather be making hats than sitting in front of a computer screen.

To save me from the computer and let me create some space in the studio for my new creations I’m having a sale. All hats and fascinators in the sale will be reduced by at least 50%. This is a fantastic opportunity to treat yourself to the luxury of a piece of handmade millinery at a bargain price.
