From an extensive collection of signatures, comes this …….

Freshly Framed Signed “The Great Boer War” Map by Arthur Conan Doyle c.1900

‘The Great Boer War' is a non-fiction work by the acclaimed crime author Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle himself was politically engaged in the Boar War, arguing in his publication 'The War in South Africa, Its Cause and Conduct' that the U.K.'s role in Boer War was necessary and justified.
This lead to publication of 'The Great Boer War' in 1900 with 5 fold out maps. The Boer war was a war between the British Empire and two African states, with the conflict lasting over two and half years.
Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for the creation of the famous literary character Sherlock Holmes, who featured in four novels and over fifty short stories. Originally a physician, Doyle initially struggled to find a publisher for his first novel. It was not until 1886 that 'A Study in Scarlet' was taken on by War Lock and Co and published in Beeton's Christmas Annual a year later. Doyle's work is still widely considered some of the world’s best crime and detective fiction, which is still used as a literary benchmark to this day.

This fabulous map taken from the The Great Boer War publication is in fine fettle with some creases and folds commensurate with its age, it has been hand signed in ink by Doyle to the bottom right, and analysis suggests it was signed between 1910-20, the signature is slightly blurry but still very eligible and has been framed behind anti-reflective glass to protect it’s integrity.

1st up today, is this……

Fabulous Napoleonic Prisoner of War Carved Bone Box and Dice c.1803-15

Napoleonic Prisoner of War (POW) bone carvings are intricate folk art objects crafted by French and Allied captives held in British hulks (prison ships) and land depots (like Norman Cross and Dartmoor) between 1793 and 1815. Driven by harsh conditions, prisoners transformed leftover mutton and beef bones into highly detailed, collectible works of art to barter or sell for basic survival needs.

This particular one is in fine fettle and well made with bags of patina commensurate with its age. It consists of a 2.25” bone box with a sliding lid that has an extended finger grip, carved with concentric circles, inside are 3 carved dice number 1-6.

Now this is an interesting find and probably a one off!

Devonport Dockyard Foundry Laminated Propeller Blade Cast “RFA Maxim” c.1950’s

This ship’s laminated propeller blade cast is a masterpiece and a work of art. It’s from the now defunct Devonport Dockyard Foundry and retains all of its details for casting, it is one of 3 blades for, what we believe to be RFA Maxim (as it’s marked “Maxim”). RFA or NAV Maxim (A377) was a Gatling Class Armament Stores Carrier, built by Lobnitz & Co Ltd, Renfrew in 1945 for the Naval Armament Department, based in Devonport. She had a long service career and was finally scrapped in 1977 by Thos. Ward, Inverkeithing, Scotland.

This superb shipbuilding collectors piece is in fine fettle with a few imperfections commensurate with its age and stands on a circular base, it measures 45”H x 16.5”W x 2ftW and would make a great stand alone feature.
