Walters Shoes is Closing ❤️
The whispers about Walters are true! After 150 years & 5 generations on the high street we have decided to hang up our boots in September 2026. It’s time to start a new era of our lives. Jane retiring and Jo moving on to new things.
Whilst this is sad news, it’s also a celebration of a small business. We have run Walters successfully for the past 22 years and are pleased that we have thrived and survived despite the difficulties of economic recessions, covid and the ever increasing competition from the internet.

We take great pride in the fact that Walters Shoes has been an important hub of the community for many years and we are so grateful to the generations of loyal local shoppers as well as the visitors to Porthcawl who return to see us year after year. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Our customers tell us that Walters Shoes is so much more than a shop. It has been a place to socialise, make friends, enjoy a laugh and sometimes find a shoulder to cry on. We pay tribute to the wonderful sales team at Walters Shoes who have served our customers so well over the years. Thank you all - you’re superstars. We have certainly all had a lot of fun along the way meeting wonderful people from all over the world from the age of 0 to 105.

We have a gentle request for the future: many people complain when local businesses close, but independent shops need active support to survive. We’re not just showrooms; we rely on true community custom. While we feel incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed 150 successful years, the surge in online shopping has made things tough for high-street retail. If you live in or visit Porthcawl, please take a moment to drop into our fellow independent businesses—you might be delightfully surprised by what they have to offer.
