Portrush parkrun

Portrush parkrun Portrush parkrun is a FREE weekly 5KM event for runners of all standards. Every Saturday morning at 09:30 at East Strand Beach Portrush BT56 8AD.

Started 8th September 2012. Weekly forecast: https://portrushpark.run/ parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful beach setting and

get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! Taking part is easy – just register before your first ever parkrun at www.parkrun.com and print off your barcode. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there! After the run, if you don’t have to get off straight away, there will be the chance to socialise with everyone at 55 Degrees North Cafe or Arcadia Beach Cafe, who both offer a discount to all parkrunners; to maybe swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners over a cup of tea or coffee and just be an important part of this new running community. So whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you’re welcome to come along and join us.

A double dip run day! Portrush parkrun – Event #672

Portrush was a particularly special one for me today - my first parkrun in NI, meaning I could add another flag to the collection and take my total to 13 countries! And, perhaps even more excitingly, this was my first ever parkrun on a beach.

I was visiting from Abergavenny, Wales, with my friend Ashley, where we are Run Directors at Llanfoist Crossing parkrun and also in the area for the Rathlin Run at 1pm.

The course heads out along the beach for around 2.5km before turning around the flag and heading back, with some absolutely cracking views along the way. There’s a handy bag drop area right by the start, as well as toilets and showers available, ideal for post paddle or dip in the sea!

Today there was a lovely little water feature/stream crossing shortly after the start. It’s completely optional, but I’d highly recommend a little splash… particularly if you happen to have a friend nearby!

Today’s event attracted 346 finishers, with visitors coming from far and wide - including from over NI, Hampshire, Abergavenny, and even Melbourne, Australia, which surely has to take the prize for furthest travelled! A special shoutout to Willowfield Harriers, who had participants at every parkrun in Northern Ireland today. What an achievement!

A huge thank you, as always, to all the volunteers who made today possible. As a Run Director, I know how much organisation and effort goes into putting on a parkrun every Saturday, and it really is appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome, Portrush - I’ll definitely be back! Afterwards, grabbed a coffee from Chosen Coffee, whose van is conveniently located in the car park - the perfect post-parkrun refuel.

And if any of you find yourselves visiting Wales, make sure you come and see us at Llanfoist Crossing parkrun in Abergavenny. We’d love to welcome you!

Alastair

As a very special incentive, everyone who volunteers at Mervyn’s 5 mile race on Friday, gets a free entry into Portrush parkrun for life!! (And every other parkrun) 😉
If you can help out on Friday night please let Mervyn know, and if you’re running on Friday night why not rest your wee legs on Saturday by volunteering at parkrun. Win, win all round!

Whilst runner entry is key to the success of any running event, none of it can happen without volunteers to man the marshal points

If you don't plan to enter and are free for an hour on the 28th, please consider volunteering

If you haven't already given me your name , and can help out , email [email protected] with your details, or speak to me over next few days

Thanks
