One of the recent long rooms I've been working on. This version of the design uses black and soft white to connect all 3 spaces along with effective space planning. Making a contemporary welcoming scheme for a young family.

Moroccan interior moments.... Our Riad in Marrakech was exquisitely decorated by the hosts, soft stone steps, impeccable taste in ceramics, great colour choices from black walls to ochre rugs and on to green tiling...
The use of lush plants on the courtyard added to the cooling effect within.
The big views and big plant urns on the rooftop.
The wooden door installations set against black warm white walls were beautiful, understated but large scale!

Everywhere we went was a feast for the eyes but the Morrocan people do not like photos so many beautiful scenes are just in my memory.
I was able to grab some lovely interior inspo though.
Think you can't put an artisan wicker lampshade on a detailed ceiling rose?...think again. Think a tree is in the way, just build around it!
If you love fretwork this is the place to be.... It's all over the place, even metal toilet roll holders get detailing....
And the arches of course, barely painted but each one holding a beautiful ceramic piece sometimes modern, sometimes ancient...

Long spaces can feel a bit like corridors if you don't get the flow right. Both of the current clients who own these spaces are finding the flow doesn't work for their specific needs.

Space planning can be daunting as making layout changes in large, open plan spaces, often including a kitchen, can have expensive consequences. Making the changes digitally first until you're happy with the flow reduces the risk and cost.

Two very different clients with very different requirements and styles. I love my job....and I'm on it!

The full quote from an interview held with Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel goes like this....

"But style should reach the people, no? It should descend into the streets, into people’s lives, like a revolution. That is real style. The rest is mode. Mode passes; style remains."

This pretty much sums up my attitude to interiors. We can all enjoy trends and add them into our homes but our style is something we develop over time. My job as a designer is to be able to articulate your style through the design I propose for you. And that's why the initial consultation is sooo important.

Getting a layout right is tricky in retail, so many products to show and trying to create impact in limited space in a very competitive market. Requires planning, floor standards discipline and lots of heavy lifting!

Customers need to be able to try out furniture and when doing so imagine how it will not only fit in, but also transform their room.

With a background in retail, designing these spaces is second nature to me ensuring flow and that the customer's eye falls in the key places.

I also get to work with great local high street independent stores like in the photos above.

Never underestimate what a good local retailer can do for you. Including great delivery, goods actually in stock, wide ranges (not limited to one particular trend), and of course competitive prices!

Make your local independent stores day by calling in over the festive season...they don't get 2 weeks off at this time of year!!

Everybody just loves a Before & After don't they. I know I do!
But it hides the tale of the journey and shows an instant improvement. Those of you who have been through a renovation or house build will know the reality of the journey can be more 'cooking in the garage in freezing cold temperatures' than remembering to take arty photos.
Still, the B&As give us the hope that our home too will be transformed.
Designing, as I do, with digital renders and 3D visualisation means I can show you what the After will look like Before you start your journey.

If you'd rather spend your hard earned dough on homeware that'll last after Xmas here are some natural inspired beauties to tempt you.

All things woven are a classic undergoing a revival! From napkin rings to banana leaf shaped mats. All things green will have some longevity too as nature's main colour always sets off others really well.

And these wooden chopping or serving boards show they don't have to be dull and will sit nonchalantly on your work too, quietly classy!

And if you need emergency Xmas chairs ( as per Peter Kay's very funny, famous stand up) you could grab this wee pouffe or barstool from at very decent prices. They'll last you way past the holiday season.
