Congratulations to all the mums! I love Mondays at the Breastfeeding Support Group in Bushmills but it was just amazing to see mums come together from all over the North Coast to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.

Well done to Coleraine SureStart Partnership, Northern Health and Social Care Trust and Dalriada Rural Sure Start for putting on this great morning 🫶

This was my second year going to Breastival and it was great to see so many families celebrating their breastfeeding journeys! It was also great to meet Catherine who once came to my classes and now has set up a local business for the North Coast area to support breastfeeding mums. Give her page a follow and see what she’s got coming up soon. Wishing Catherine every success 🤰🏻🤱🏻🫶

Toddler sensory play ideas 💡

When free independent play gets going, our little ones show us what they like and what they can do if we let them get on with it and follow their lead!

🤭Today I was presented with a peg to keep - but just for a little while!

🫧 I held hands with cute toddlers as they stomped on bubble wrap listening for the pop!

🎀 Ribbons for crafts were sat on and lifted over heads and got in a tangled mess but guess what - our little ones got out of that mess all by themselves!

Today was all about using what we have at home with a few cheap items added in to entertain and excite our toddlers to explore and learn!

Homemade sensory toys for your baby ✨

How often have you seen that you tube video of a beautiful expensive looking toy and a set of car keys? Which does the baby go for? Always the car keys!!

Babies love to explore by sight, touch and taste anything and everything they get their hands on. It’s even better if it’s colourful and textured. They want to touch things they see you touch so that’s why household items are much more fun!

These are just some of the homemade toys we used last week at our baby sensory toy morning and they are all easy to do. The pegs were a big hit! Try it and see how your baby masters their fine motor skills!

My top tip is follow your baby’s lead and do what they do. Their creativity is a joy to watch!

Spoonfeeds or Baby-Led? 🥣🥑🍓🍍🥕

I like both! I eat my porridge, soup and ice cream and jelly with a spoon and I eat my sandwich, banana and biscuits with my hands.

Babies should be allowed to do the same!

Research shows that the more babies get to touch food with their hands, the less fussy and picky an eater they’ll be. This means mess! We generally don’t like messy eaters but it’s only for a short period of time until they master this new skill of eating so, embrace the mess for now!

If babies get to decide when to put food into their mouth, should that be in a spoon or from their hand, they’re also less likely to choke. They feel more in control of the food going into their mouth and it makes it less scary too.

As your baby sees, touches, smells and tastes the food, they get to enjoy the feeding experience and have a healthy relationship to food from the very beginning.

If you are about to start solids with your baby and aren’t to sure where or what to start with, come and join Babies Who Brunch in July. It’s a 2-week course on 23rd and 30th and afterwards you can have a baby who loves their food as much as this little one 😋

I’m taking it a little easier in August as I know the summer months can be busy with holidays and days away.

I’d love to welcome you to Baby Massage, Baby’s First Facial or the Monthly Milestones workshop if you’re still on the north coast in August ☀️
