On this day in Hainsworth history...

Today, the 18th of June, is the 211th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. This iconic event marked the victory of the Seventh Coalition over the French Army, and brought the Napoleonic Wars to an end.

The British troops, led by the Duke of Wellington, would have been an impressive sight on the battlefield due to their bright scarlet jackets. This was by design - it's said that the colour red was chosen to disguise the soldiers' wounds, so as not to betray weakness to the enemy. This striking wool cloth was manufactured by AW Hainsworth, and we continue to produce it for the British military to this day.

You can see Hainsworth cloth being worn by the King's Guard (either stationed outside Buckingham Palace or during last weekend's Trooping of the Colour) or by the Royal Family during ceremonial events.

With over 240 years of craft and expertise, Hainsworth are proud to be part of iconic British history.

Last weekend, a team of colleagues from AW Hainsworth took on the Three Peaks Challenge – and what an achievement it was!

Starting at 6.00am, the team battled misty and damp conditions for most of the day before the sun finally appeared in the last hour.

A special mention goes to Scott and Dean, who ran the entire challenge. Dean finished in an impressive 6 hours 57 minutes, with Scott following around 30 minutes later. The rest of the Hainsworth gang completed the challenge together in just under 10 hours.

The day was a fantastic example of teamwork, determination, and resilience. As well as the physical challenge, spending time outdoors and staying active can have a positive impact on mental wellbeing, while shared experiences like this help strengthen relationships and bring teams closer together.

Congratulations to everyone involved, what a fantastic effort! 👏⛰️

Moodboard of the Month: Moss & Timber

This month, we’re embracing muted moss tones, felted wool textures, and weathered earthy layers. Inspired by the quiet beauty of woodland landscapes, this moodboard captures the balance between nature and the enduring materials that connect us to it.

Rich forest greens, timeless khaki hues, rustic wood, and delicate dried botanicals come together to create a space that feels grounded, calming, and effortlessly timeless.

Pictured fabrics: True Heritage Ren Khaki, Urbane Cardamom, Broadcloth Taupe and Broadcloth Kale.

We are incredibly proud to announce that AW Hainsworth has received a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation, in recognition of our pioneering wildland PPE fabric ECO-DRY.

ECO-DRY was first launched to market in 2013 and has since become a fabric of choice for Australia’s fire services, worn by over 70% of wildland firefighters in the country.

The King’s Award is the highest official award a UK business can receive. This marks a key milestone for Hainsworth, and another step in our long history of textile innovation.

This achievement could only be made possible through the incredibly hard work of our Hainsworth colleagues both past and present. Thank you to our Production, Sales and Technical teams, as well as our suppliers, customers and end users, for helping to ensure ECO-DRY remains the best wildland PPE fabric on the market.
