One of the biggest surprises of running my handmade children's clothing business hasn't been learning to sew faster or juggle all the admin...
It's discovering just how incredible complete strangers can be.
The people who follow along every week, leave encouraging comments, recommend my business to friends, stop to chat at markets or choose to support handmade over mass-produced.
Those little acts of kindness mean more than you'll ever know.
I've also met some amazing fellow small business owners through markets and events. What started as saying hello across neighbouring stalls has turned into genuine friendships, online encouragement and always having someone in your corner who just gets it!
Of course, I couldn't do any of this without my husband and children, who support me every single day. ❤️
But I've learnt not to measure my success by who I already know.
Instead, I focus on building a welcoming community around my small business —because those strangers often become loyal customers, familiar faces and, eventually, friends.
If you're a fellow small business owner, I'd love you to...

My mid-year review - the good, the bad and the ugly!!!
It's certainly been fun looking back through my camera roll since January - and thanks for being here along the way!
Down it's all downhill until CHRISTMAS!!!! (Sorry, said the C word!)

Sometimes it's easy to look at a small business and only see the finished products.
But every business has a story.
Mine started in a classroom.
After ten years of teaching, becoming Head of Performing Arts and pouring everything into a career I loved, I reached a point where something had to change. With two young children, I needed a life that allowed me to be present for my family as well as earn an income.
That little leap into selling handmade gifts on Etsy eventually led me to sewing clothes for my own children... and I never looked back.
What began as making clothes they couldn't find on the high street became something much bigger.
Today, every fabric print starts as one of my hand-drawn illustrations. Every collection is designed to celebrate childhood without limiting children to outdated ideas about colour, animals or clothing styles.
I truly believe every child deserves to wear what makes them feel happy, confident and completely themselves.
Thank you for being part of this journey, whether you've been here from the Etsy days or you've only just discovered my work.
I'd love to know... when did you first start following along?
💛 Leave me a comment and introduce yourself too!

This is it... 🐟✨
My very first completed fabric print! 🎉
At the start of this week, all I had was an idea, an empty screen and a stylus. Over the last few days you've followed along as I sketched, refined, digitised and brought my design to life. Now I'm so excited to finally share the finished result!
Creating a seamless fabric pattern has taught me so much about surface pattern design, colour, composition and just how much time and attention goes into every print. It's definitely given me a whole new appreciation for the work that happens before fabric is even printed.
A huge thank you to everyone who's watched, liked, commented and encouraged me throughout my work experience week. Your support has made sharing the whole process even more special. 💛
Now the big question...
Would you wear this koi fish print, or make something with it? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Hi everyone, it's Imie! 👋
One of the things I've been learning during my work experience is how fabric prints are designed from scratch.
This week I've been drawing digital illustrations and turning them into a seamless repeating pattern—the kind of design that could eventually be printed onto fabric.
What surprised me most is how much work goes into the pattern itself. It's not just drawing the artwork. You have to think about how all the elements fit together and repeat across the fabric without obvious gaps or lines.
In this design I've included lily pads, lily flowers and koi fish... but I'm not showing you the finished pattern just yet! 😆
You'll have to come back tomorow!

Hi, it's Imie again! 👋
One of the projects I've been working on during my work experience is learning how fabric prints are designed.
This week I created this digital flower illustration layer by layer, starting with a very basic shape and gradually adding details until it became a finished lily flower.
What surprised me most is how many individual layers go into digital illustration. Looking at the finished artwork, you'd never realise how much happens behind the scenes before it becomes part of a fabric print design.
I thought it would be fun to turn it into a game!
🌸 Which slide did you first realise it was a lily?
Be honest—I want to know whether it was obvious or if I managed to keep you guessing!
Leave the slide number in the comments below ⬇️
And if you enjoy seeing the creative process behind handmade children's clothing and fabric design, let me know because I have more artwork to share this week.

Why is it still considered normal for girls to wear blue, love dinosaurs and play football—but somehow "different" for boys to wear pink or choose rainbow prints?
As parents, we're often encouraged to expand possibilities for our daughters, which is wonderful.
But our sons deserve that same freedom too.
Because when we tell boys that certain colours, themes or interests are "for girls", we're sending a bigger message than we might realise.
We're teaching them that femininity is something to avoid.
That some colours, hobbies or ways of expressing themselves are somehow less acceptable.
And that's not the message I want my children to grow up with.
The good news? You don't have to shop within the traditional "boys" and "girls" sections.
Try crossing the aisles.
Choose the prints your child gravitates towards.
Let them pick the colours that light them up.
Or skip the labels entirely.
That's exactly why I create handmade, gender-inclusive children's clothing with playful animal prints, comfortable fits and colours for every child.
No rules. No labels. Just clothes made for childhood.
I'd love to know: would you buy your son pink clothing? Why or why not?
