Hello everyone. It's been a while since I posted as I've been busy sewing different projects so thought I would let you see what I've been up to.

I would like to wish all of my customers and everyone who follows Sew Suepreme ahappy , healthy and prosperous 2018. Special thanks to Tracey Garton and Chris Green for your many recommendations to people quite a few of which have resulted in me getting orders for work. 2017 was an interesting year for me with new challenges, including doing my first craft fair, and having my niece's wedding dress featured in Sew Magazine in August.
I've already had enquiries and orders booked in for 2018 and this year will again be entering Dressmaker of the Year so keep you fingers crossed folks.
Thank you all once again for your support. Susan

The cost of made to measure wedding dresses.
A bride often wants a style of dress which doesnt 'fit' with the current fashion trend in the shops or simply wants something unique. Large manufacturers are often not willing to do a 'one off' sale and the cost of using a couture designer can run into the thousands.
As an independent seamstress I can make up a pattern to the style wanted for considerably less than couture costs. However please dont confuse 'handmade' with 'cheap".
So how does it work?
The first appointment is to discuss the brides vision, look through pictures and patterns and maybe sketch a design.
Once the design is agreed, I work out a rough estimate of costs. My charges usually include labour, zips/fastenings, boning, interfacing, lining, trims and a professional finish (all seams on the final dress will be fully finished by either overlocking or french seams so no raw edges will be seen or run the risk of fraying).I will advise how much fabric is needed (using current dress size) and give a rough estimate of cost based on the fabric suppliers I use.
If we go ahead, a 50% deposit of my costs is paid to secure the order and buy the trimmings etc. If the bride wants me to buy the fabric as well, 100% payment is also required at this stage.
At the next appointment (about 4 months before the wedding) I take full measurements, check all materials etc are right and confirm design details.
I then make up what is known as a 'toile' which is a the pattern cut out in calico material and is used for all adjustments so when made in the final fabric it is the exact fit and has no pin marks etc.
The number of fitting appointments will depend on the dress design but are usually 3-4 in total.
So ladies, I hope this has explained why 'handmade' is worth thinking about and although not necessarily cheaper is always more personal.
