At the Luxurious Forest Pines Hotel and Spa Tutor Emma Smith will help and support in this excellent intermediate workshop. In this workshop, you’ll learn to make a pair of fitted jeans destined to be your new favourites. You’ll learn to choose the correct pattern size, how to grade between sizes, and make a toile. We’ll then assess for issues and tweak the toile until it fits you perfectly.

Once your toile is perfect, you’ll learn how to cut and sew denim, using durable sewing techniques for long lasting jeans, including, how to sew a fly front zipper and/ or button fly, installing jeans hardware for a professional finish, and tips and techniques for accurate topstitching. No more fitting room nightmares, you’ll go away with confidence in your sewing abilities, and in how awesome you look in your new perfect fitting jeans.

Sign up now for the 12th March Sunday Sewing Session. Get stuck into a project for the day with tutor, Lucy Hewes to hand to support, help and encourage with any issues you may come up against. There is plenty of time and space to enjoy a dedicated sewing day just for you. Bring along your sewing project, kit and machines. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided just don’t forget to bring your lunch! 10-4pm £25

Starting tonight!

MAKE A SAMPLE - BUTTONHOLE OPENING BODICE, LEG OF MUTTON SET IN SLEEVE, AND 2-PIECE SHIRT COLLAR

During this 6-week course, you will make a full-size sample. You will be emailed a bodice and sleeve pattern with instructions so you can prepare prior to the start of the course. The course is designed as a follow along and everyone will work at the same stage. You will cut a full-size pattern for the techniques included and you will construct a full-size garment sample. By following along you will gain the knowledge and understanding of how to bring a 2D design to a 3D realisation. The construction of the sample will give you the opportunity to practice techniques and build your confidence.

Meet Emma Smith - An associate tutor

I first started sewing as a child using scraps from my mums’ dressmaking to make clothes for my dolls. I quickly progressed to using the machine, and at school Needlework was my favourite subject!
After school I continued with a B/tech and then a degree in Fashion and Textiles, and over time have spent more than 12 years working in the garment making industry, as well as being a prolific dressmaker for myself.

In 2019 I started teaching dressmaking workshops in my spare time, and early in 2022 made the decision to work as a dedicated freelance tutor.

I teach a wide range of skills from absolute beginners to more complex projects such as jeans.

I am passionate about sewing and dressmaking and take great delight in sharing that passion and encouraging others to find the same joy in creating clothes and accessories as I do.

All of our online courses are practical and you are encouraged to prepare before the start of the course and join in during the sessions, all of our courses are planned so all the work can be completed during the sessions. All of our sessions are recorded and you will have access to these indefinitely and all of our online sessions are delivered on zoom, all handouts will be emailed to you on booking.
