Looking back at some moments from last year’s event as we get ready to celebrate this year’s Selkirk Common Riding tomorrow, June 12th.

Selkirk honours its rich history with this annual tradition, and as we are based locally, we are incredibly proud to be part of this community. We wish the best of luck to this year’s Standard Bearer, Sam Coltherd, and his Attendants!

Weaving Wednesday | Sutherland Old Weathered on the loom

The Earldom of Sutherland, said to be the oldest in Britain, dates to around 1228, when it was granted to William, Lord Sutherland. He was a descendant of Freskin, who had earlier received the lands of Moray from King David I.

The Sutherlands took their name from the County of Sutherland and wielded significant power in the north. Their early history is marked by frequent rivalries as they fought with almost continual strife with their neighbours.

We were delighted to have collaborated with British Wool on the launch of their new Scottish wool logo and certification. This mark guarantees authenticity, identifying products made from 100% Scottish wool from fleece to finished product.

Following the development of our 100% Scottish wool Strome quality in 2023, we’re proud to support this initiative and celebrate the heritage and future of Scottish wool.

This yarn is now also used across other fabrics, including our kilt jacket tweed and Selkirk Tweed, both made with 50% Scottish wool. Combined with our wider use of British Wool, our overall usage of UK sourced wool now stands at around 38% of our total yarn purchases.

Come and see us this season at the Lochcarron Heritage Weavers shop in beautiful Wester Ross.

Alongside our quality made tartans, we now have felted cards and soaps available in store made by pupils from the Lochcarron Primary School. All profits from the purchase of these felted pieces will be shared between the primary 1-5 class and help support the Blythswood charity.

The Weavers Shop will also be opening on Sundays throughout the summer from the 7th of June until 27th September 2026. Whether you’re passing through or planning a trip, do pop in, we’d love to welcome you!
