Whether you are attending the Abernethy Games, supporting Clan Grant from afar, or looking to bring the essence of Scottish tartan into your home and wardrobe, the Grant 1714 collection offers timeless, textured, and subtle accents.

Reconstructed by Tartan Historian Peter Macdonald, the Grant 1714 tartan is based on the pattern depicted in Richard Waitt’s 1714 portraits, featuring colours typical of the first half of the 18th century.

Authentically made at our mill, we dye our yarns with precise colour matching to replicate these historical shades. Woven and crafted in-house with expertise, each piece reflects true Scottish craftsmanship.

Their legacy remains woven into Scottish history. First recorded in the 12th century, the Scotts rose to become one of the most powerful Border families. The Scotts of Buccleuch were their principal family, and their notable descendants included the renowned author Sir Walter Scott, who descended from the Harden branch.

With the Abernethy Highland Games and annual Grant Clan Gathering taking place over the weekend of the 8th of August, now is the ideal time to find something for the occasion. The Grant 1714 tartan is an exceptional choice, offering a timeless connection to Clan Grant’s rich history.

Among the earliest tartans on record, the Grant 1714 is derived from the sett, design and colours depicted in Richard Waitt's 1714 portraits of the Laird of Grant's Piper and Champion. Originally displayed at Castle Grant, both paintings can now be viewed in Edinburgh at the National Museum of Scotland.

We invite you to explore this historic tartan collection and take home a living piece of history, crafted at our mill in Scotland. Explore online | https://www.lochcarron.co.uk/menswear/exclusive-tartans/the-grant-1714
