Attention students! Are you graduating and decluttering? If you’re considering donating to St Luke’s, here’s how to make your donation count:

✅ Check the condition - Only donate items that are clean, undamaged, and in good working order.
💡 Think saleable: If you wouldn’t buy it yourself, it’s unlikely someone else will.
We don’t have the facilities to repair, wash, or upcycle items.

✅ Know what we can accept - Some items can’t be accepted due to legislation and health & safety.
👉 Please check the full list of what we can and can’t accept on our website before donating.

✅ Pack with care - Pack items safely and securely to avoid damage. Please keep bags and boxes at a manageable weight.
⚠️ Please note: We no longer accept rag donations (unsellable textiles).
These cost us money to dispose of.

We were pleased to welcome Drew Hallsmith, Local Services Manager for Alzheimer’s Society (Sheffield and Rotherham), to our Information Hub at the Darnall shop this morning.

Drew, alongside Naureen, Engagement Officer and Chaplain at St Luke’s, and Aminat, Student Social Worker at St Luke’s, shared valuable information and guidance on dementia. They supported visitors with queries about services available in and around Darnall.

Today’s session offered information in community languages including English, Punjabi, and Urdu.

We look forward to continuing these important conversations with our next dementia Coffee & Chat taking place on 25 June, where Admiral Nurses will be joining us to further support and inform discussions around dementia care.

We rely on your quality donations so that we can provide quality care.

Did you know? A national challenge for all charity shops at the moment is the amount of donations which are unsaleable due to being low quality. Where textile recycling was once an option for charity shops to dispose of low-quality items ethically, this form of recycling is becoming more and more costly to charities, and takes money away from causes.

At St Luke’s, disposing of items we can’t sell costs £65,000 annually - money that could fund patient care.

As you declutter, we are asking our supporters to by providing quality items that are in good, saleable condition.

Top tips :
✅Check condition: Only donate items that are clean, undamaged, and in good working order.
✅Think saleable: If you wouldn’t buy it yourself, it’s unlikely someone else will.
✅There are certain items we cannot accept due to legislation or health and safety. Please check the list on our website before donating.

Your thoughtful donations help us raise vital funds and reduce waste. Together, we can make a real difference.
