A letter from Ben Fogle.
A Buffalo is so much more than just a jacket.
It’s a way of life.
A philosophy.
A lifestyle.
When you meet someone else wearing a Buffalo it’s like meeting an old friend. There is an instant connection. An acknowledgment of being in a special club of fine taste and insider knowledge. I wore my first Buffalo when I was 14 and I haven’t stopped using them since.
My trusty Buffalo has been everywhere with me.
I have travelled the Andes, the Alps and the Himalayas with my Buffalo. It has been to the deserts of Arabia and to the white deserts of Antarctica. It has been up Chimborazo and Cotopaxi in Ecuador and up Everest in Nepal. It has crossed Svalbard and Mongolia. It has protected me against the elements and made a very useful rug, pillow and even dog bed.
It’s like an old faithful friend. Always there just in case. My safety blanket quite literally. It is why I’m so proud to be the new custodian of this brand, alongside my business partner, James Sleater. It’s been quite a journey this first year of ownership.
We have such an awesome team and we have loved getting to know the makers.
We have introduced new colours and some lighter weight Spring/Summer options, BUT we are only just beginning. We want to better serve you and your sector whether that is camping, canoeing, sailing, riding, hiking, walking, fell running, swimming. You are all part of our unique community and with our new Base Camp in the heart of Sheffield we have already started holding talks and gatherings (we even have a Buffalo Beer launching). We have been thrilled to work with brilliant visionary outdoor talent like Preet Chandi and Mitch Hutchcraft.
We are supporting a team of scientists exploring Bolivia and helped Josh Bregmen reach the summit of Everest. We are supporting the ‘Ice Viking’ Fenwick Ridley in his ice swimming goals. But most of all we are doing this for you, our loyal supporters and Buffalo lovers.
Dipping into the archive and celebrating our heritage. We feel so lucky to be carrying the flame that Hamish Hamilton started in 1979.
Thank you for all your support over the last year. We don’t take it for granted.
With love,
Ben
