I’m not managing this project very well - good thing I’m not doing this as part of my day job!
I don’t have enough space to lay all the dragon pieces out at the same time so I’m having to do batches of dyeing, painting etc. and then wait for them to dry before doing the next batch.
However, quite nicely that means I’ve got pieces in all stages of preparation. From left to right;
- dye (Angelus purple leather dye)
- base coat (Angelus purple leather paint)
- antique (fiebings black antique paste)
- dry brush (Angelus pearlescent purple)
- finish (resolene)

I need some quick wins whilst making my leather dragon and I’ve got a lot of small pieces of leather left over. So I bought a pattern for a dragon key chain from creative awl. This is the tester and I love it so much it’s now mine (those are my workshop keys).
Should be some more coming soon in my Etsy shop. What colour though?

Head of the dragon done. I have the neck pieces cut out but I’m impatiently waiting on a leather order to cut out the rest.
This is several days of separate stages though - cut, stamped (with scales), smoothed, oiled, painted, coated and finally hand stitched….

I might need to find some side projects that can be completed more quickly!

I’ve been a bit sidetracked by a personal project recently.
This is my practice run at a hand stitched leather dragon. I want to make the creative awl dragon but thought it would be a good idea to start a bit smaller. So I’ve made myself a leather dragon wristband (also by creative awl).
Lots of lessons learnt and the practice turned out pretty fine so onto the big one ;)

I really like aquatic creatures and seahorses are some of my favourites…
I tried to recreate some photos of seahorses I took at Birmingham sea life centre in resin dioramas. I think they look great but maybe a few tiny rocks would look good next time?

The resin dioramas are attached to a detachable zipper clip - perfect for making any bag (or other zippered item) unique.
