We’re looking for someone new to join our team!

An exciting opportunity has opened up here at Solent Spectacles, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Optical Administrator / Assistant to join us in Totton.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to begin their career, gain practical experience and develop new skills in a friendly, independent optical business.

You’ll be working alongside our experienced team, learning about customer service, administration and the day-to-day running of the business, while working towards a Level 3 Business Administrator qualification. The weekly class is delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams.

You don’t need previous optical experience. We’re looking for someone who’s friendly, organised, eager to learn and enjoys working with people.

📍 Based in Totton, Southampton
⏰ 35 hours per week
🎓 Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship
💻 Fully remote training

So much of the world we love is experienced through our sight.

Today is World Sight Day, a global campaign that reminds us just how important our vision is and why looking after our eyes matters throughout our lives.

Heading to the Southampton Boat Show this weekend? ⛵️

If you spend time around the water, polarised lenses are well worth knowing about.

When sunlight reflects from flat surfaces such as a road or water, it can create intense glare. Polarised lenses use a special filter designed to reduce much of that reflected glare, helping to provide clearer, more comfortable vision.

Our in-store polarised lens demo might use a road scene, but the principle is the same on the water, and the difference can be striking.

Do we all see the same thing?

Yesterday was Colour Blind Awareness Day and we’re continuing the conversation. 👁️

Around 1 in 12 men have colour vision deficiency, but its impact can appear in places many of us rarely think about, from signs and charts to classrooms, clothing and sport.

The problem isn’t colour itself. It’s when colour is the only clue.
