There was no magical moment where I suddenly knew how to paint jackets. It was mostly trial, error, ruined things, lots of wasted money, and thinking ā€œsurely thereā€™s an easier way to do this?ā€. So these are a few of the things I wish someone had told me when I started.

Unsurprisingly as well, theyā€™re also a few of the things Iā€™ve packed into my beginner guide because I actually enjoy saving people from making the same mistakes I did šŸ« .

I debated posting this because it feels weird to talk about something going well without sounding like Iā€™m just going ā€œLOOK AT MEā€. I promise itā€™s not that at all!

But I wanted to share it because 6 months ago I was frustrated, getting low views and wondering if I was posting my artwork for absolutely nothing. Then one post about my guidebook went crazy.

Yep, things have slowed down since. Iā€™d be lying if I said that wasnā€™t scary, but it proved that those creators I was comparing myself to and thinking ā€œwhy the hell am I bothering?ā€ have all been through exactly the same things.

So if youā€™re a small business owner or artist, post the thing that feels cringe. Try the thing outside your comfort zone. You genuinely have no idea what might happen next.

Also, to everyone who bought my guide, shared it, followed me or supported my little business along the way, thank you. šŸ–¤

Youā€™ve helped me do things I genuinely couldnā€™t afford to do before. Including, very excitingly, buying a new chair šŸ˜‚

On 25th September, Iā€™m hosting another Wearable Art Workshop at Social Studio Space in West Pinchbeck, and you absolutely do NOT need to consider yourself ā€œartyā€ to come along.

Bring your own item and Iā€™ll show you how to turn it into your own piece of wearable art, and youā€™ll leave with something youā€™ve actually made yourself.

One last thingā€¦ Every single person who buys my guide genuinely means the world to me. Not just because youā€™ve bought something, but because youā€™ve trusted me enough to spend your money on something I created.

Iā€™m also now starting to see what people have painted using the guide, and wow! Plus every now and then those people have asked questions or for little tips in my DMs and it honestly means the world. I feel like Iā€™m creating such a lovely supportive community šŸ„¹.

Without the guidebook and the people whoā€™ve supported it I honestly donā€™t know if Iā€™d still be doing this job.

Iā€™ve spent the last 10 years building the business I dreamed of when I was little, and every order, booking, share, follow and recommendation has helped me keep doing it.
