I am called Yelling Pig because I live in a village called Yelling and we keep pigs. I teach sewing, spinning and weaving. I am available for bespoke one to one and small group classes both online and in person. These can be arranged at a date to suit, weekdays or weekends. I have a lovely garden that is a great venue for summer lessons and an airy studio space. Please message me for more details. I am also available to give talks and run workshops for WI meetings, crafting groups and similar.

I know it’s not scarf weather, and it’s definitely not time to be thinking about autumn colours, but I can’t wait until September to show you this hand spun scarf.
I don’t often buy dyed braids of fibre these days, but when I saw this braid at Pigment & Ply when I visited the East Anglia Yarn Festival I knew it was something special!

I used to think that turning the collar on a shirt was complicated mending, until I stopped to think about what’s actually involved. All you need is a quick unpick and to be able to sew a straight line. Unpick the collar from the stand, flip it over and sew back into place- Voila!
It’s taken less than an hour to mend a big rip in the back of this shirt and turn the very frayed collar.
It’s not perfect- the little envelopes for the collar points are now on top. But this charity shop find has become a favourite of my son’s and it now has a third lease of life!

I’m experimenting with making several different art yarns from one dyed braid.
Because they are often used as an accent an entire skein seems like too much. I have been selling the yarns by the metre, but I wonder if a pack with a few meters of each variety would prove useful to some. This set contains core spun, cable, flame and lock spun yarns.
What do you think? Which style should I include more/ less of?

My favourite is always the thick and thin spiral flame yarn. 🔥

Things are starting to get busy here on the farm this weekend. We’ve had 11 lambs so far, waiting for another 5 that are on their way this morning. There have been one or two mini dramas but all is well at the moment 🤞
Then we wait for 27 more babies.

I thought it was time for a general update.
If you follow Backstitch shop you may have seen that they have decided not to run classes in the shop anymore. This is a very understandable decision, it means that they have more retail space available and more lovely things for you to buy.

For me, it means I have the time to do some workshops for SewPositive, the brilliant Cambridge based sewing charity, and more private bespoke classes from home. I am now taking bookings for May and beyond.

If you would like to learn any sewing techniques, have a go at weaving or learn to spin a yarn then just drop me a message. We can chat about exactly what you’d like to cover and organise a date to suit us both. I also welcome small groups.

And I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you that I do talks and workshops for groups, such as WIs and quilters groups. Again, message me and we can discuss your requirements.
