Doesn’t this dress look like mango and raspberry sorbet? 🍧🥭 Swipe to the end to see a little dog in his matching outfit 🐕

I always love it when Susanna Hickling messages me saying ‘Do you think you could make something like this?!’ this time she saw a beautiful sheer dress with a oversized bow at the back and a slip underneath and as I LOVE working with sheer fabris (I know I am insane!) I said ‘YES!’ 🤩

In the process of us looking at fabrics from Beckford Silk we came to a conclusion we could do TWO colours! The original dress had a matching slip to the overlay colour but why have one fun colkour when you can have TWO?! 🎨

We ended choosing the gorgeous tangerine rrepe de chine and fuchsia organza. I now refer to this dress as the sorbet dress 🥭

As I started out my sewing journey running a dance skirt business Lillian Hope Designs and I actually feel very comfortable sewing organza, nets, tulles and chiffon despite them being slippy, a pain to iron and very easy to snag! 🫠

However I never got to work with 100% silks! And that was ANOTHER reason I said yes, I will never turn down an opportunity to use silk!! You can really tell the difference between 100% silk and anything with polyester in it. The fabric behcaves totally differently, you don’t have to worry about melting it when you iron and it just drapes beautifully!! 🪡

I love doing custom orders like this where I get to be really creative and draft my own patterns. The great thing about this style if you can do a different colour underlay in the future and have a totally different dress! 👗

What colour underlay do you think I should make for Susanna next?!

Two recent wedding and prom dress alternations!

Shortening the hem of this beautiful lace wedding dress and doing the hem and straps of this stunning navy satin prom dress.

The prom dress was a REAL treat to work with! The fabric was a beautiful quality duchess satin. Even though satins, chiffons, silks, tulles are some of the hardest fabrics to work with they are actually my FAVOURITES so it was a real treat!

Currently I am working with 100% silk organza and crepe de chine which is an utter dream 😂❤️

Taking the patchwork I am currently loving to do and making a table runner!

I have really been enjoying using up my scrap fabrics and matching them together to make new patterns. I found the pink and rust paisley fabric in a reduced section in IKEA and based all the other fabrics round that. Yellows, denim, reds all worked best!

What shall I make out of patchwork next?!

Wedding and prom season has officially started! This blush pink is so gorgeous and had a beautiful one shoulder design 🌸

This dresses needed the length shortening and strap going up. I also took in the right side without the strap to make sure there was no unwanted gaping!

I love a challenge to work out and working out how to shorten this strap was that! You can see in the first photo I ended up cutting the strap where it joined the front bodice. This meant I could shorten it! I French seamed it back together and made sure that it was looped through the bodice before I did! I hand sewed the gathers gown to make sure the French seam didn’t pop through to the from and it was done!

First dress of the season down! 🥳

I made another fabric scrap bag!!

This was one for for when we went to see Layfey in March. It is a combination of both of our scrap fabrics! I love the reds ❤️

I added an inside pocket for Espe’s because I REALLY missed one in my own! I have the stuff cut out for two others, another one for me and one for my Mum!

Finally sharing some photos of this from that I made for birthday last October!

I tested this pattern a while ago in a gorgeous wine taffeta to look like a traditional 1915-1918 skirt and I KNEW Espe would like the style! So instead I used the same traditional pattern with the hook and eye closures and structured waist but I added a strip of thick elastic at the back where the gathers are to make it more adjustable!

This fabric is 100% cotton herringbone which was a duvet from Dunelm! I kept all the same steps like the faced hem to get a traditional look with a modern adjustable twist!
