Coming to the Vintage Emporium in March, these wonderful French terracotta patisserie moulds were used to make the traditional Lamala cakes for Easter. Dating from the turn of the 20th century, the external form is beautifully sculptural, suggesting prehistoric animal figures, and patinated from generations of wood-fired ovens.

Inside is the richly honey-glazed negative space showing the reverse details of the Lamb of God, which separates to release the ritual cake.

These come very rarely to the UK market!

Three very different faces on their way to the Vintage Emporium in March: the first a very nicely painted formal portrait of a girl with a very level gaze, late 19th century; the second a contemporary expressionist example in the style of Georges Rouault; the third is a study in charcoal and chalk copying a well-known 17th century Belgian painting and doing it rather well. Signed Mathilde (?) Lumiere, which is nice.
