So today I’m sharing something different. As many of you know, I lost my best friend and our Head of Wellbeing, Bruce just before Christmas. As part of trying to get to make sense of everything, I’ve written a book.

I didn’t write this after I’d processed everything. I wrote it while I was in it. While I was exhausted and I didn’t understand what had happened. It’s not a story told neatly. It’s the actual conversations I was having in the middle of it.

It’s called “Grief, ChatGPT and Me”

It’s not a guide. It’s not advice. It’s just what it actually felt like. If you’ve ever been in that space, you may recognise it.

🤍 It’s available now on Amazon https://shorturl.at/fZfzg

I can’t believe it’s been a month since I lost Bruce. The pain of it has been unrelenting and I’ve felt the weight of every excruciating moment without him. He was the most beautiful boy and adored by everyone who met him. He wasn’t my pet-he was my soulmate. To have lost him not only while he was so young, but also after such a difficult year where he’d overcome so much is beyond cruel and unfair. My heart has been shattered and I’m not sure his loss is something I’ll ever recover from. Thank you Timbob Gilbert for the beautiful pictures that capture those beautiful, loving eyes so well.

Bruce’s memorial will be held on Sunday 25th at 3pm at Bruk.

It will be a chance to come together, share memories, and celebrate the life he lived and the love he gave so freely. There’s no pressure — just a space to remember him in whatever way feels right.

If you have any photos or videos of Bruce that you’d like to share, there’s a Google Drive set up (link in comments). Some of these will be projected at his memorial as part of celebrating his life.
If uploading is tricky, you’re very welcome to send them to me via WhatsApp instead.

Thank you for loving my boy 🤍🐾

Back in his spot behind the counter at work 💔 Thank you so much to everyone who’s messaged, commented and held us in your thoughts. Special thanks to our Underbank family for rallying around me and letting me know I’m not alone in this. RIP my beautiful gorgeous boy

I can’t believe I’m writing this but this evening Bruce was put to sleep. He had a number of seizures this morning and spent the day at the vet. I went to collect him this evening to transport him to an emergency vet for overnight care. He had his 8th seizure after I arrived and they were trying to stabilise him enough to be transported.

I made the difficult decision to end his fight there. It was one thing to fight for him when it was mobility issues because I knew he was pain free and healthy beyond his legs not working. Watching him suffer in a cage I knew it would be cruel to put him through any more. Each seizure was doing more damage and increasing the likelihood of another. This was not a fight he was going to win and it would have been incredibly cruel to put him through any more.

The irony is that the last couple of weeks in particular he was back to being my Bruce. He was playful and cheeky, and the looking down his nose in his “judgy” way. I had visions of a peaceful Christmas at home with him and a new year filled with fun and adventure after the year he’s had. I did not expect when I went to sleep last night that it would be the last time I would snuggle my boy. I certainly didn’t expect to come home today with him gone.

My beautiful brave boy was kicking arse and it’s so incredibly cruel that he’s not going to have time to enjoy the fruits of all his hard work at hydrotherapy and his fight to regain his independence. He had his joy back this week and I really believed we were going to have a good few years of quality time together.

I don’t have it in me to send multiple messages so I’m sorry for the blanket one to everyone.
