Busy Little Bears

Busy Little Bears Family run business providing fun, engaging, stimulating, educational sensory and wooden toys for ba

Busy Little Bears was originally born from an idea when my little bears were babies. I was looking for a complete all in one sensory product that would stimulate, educate and entertain my little ones. Since then the business has grown and developed to offer a wide range of sensory and wooden toys all designed to stimulate, educate and encourage development and imagination.

Just a boy with his much loved elephant puppet!

The littlest bear is absolutely loving 'Eddie' the elephant puppet (named by the older Bears!)

We bring him out to help with tummy time, at nappy time, and of course at the witching hour when we need a distraction of Eddie. Eddie has also been singing nursery rhymes and of course playing peek-a-boo!

I'm a huge fan of puppet play for babies and toddlers and I know I've posted before about how great puppet play is and the benefits, but here is al little reminder!

🧡Develop social and communication skills
🧡Develop language skills
🧡Emotional development
🧡Improves motor skills
🧡Encourages hand eye coordination
🧡Encourages creativity
🧡Listening skills

- or not! 😂 Of course I was supposed to post this yesterday but the Littlest Bear was a constant distraction and I guess we are now onto 😂

Looking back at how much my Littlest Bear loved our contrast cards - so simple and look at that little smile!

❤️So in love with my Littlest Bear

❤️That Smile

❤️That Giggle

❤️Little humans are incredible and watching them learn and develop every day is amazing.

❤️Play for us is super simple - throwing a scarf in the air, tickling with it and playing peek-a-boo. You don't need fancy toys for babies to learn and develop

Tummy Time!

Tummy time is one of the most important activities for helping your baby develop. It is exactly what it says it is – time when your baby lies on their tummy!

Our littlest bear hasn’t always been a fan of tummy time but we are seeing progress and I can definitely see a change in how long he is lifting his head for! We’ve found he is better when he’s looking at a mirror or when we use a rattle or bells to engage with him.

So some top tips from us:
🧡Not all babies like tummy time, so if they are not enjoying it then stop!
🧡There are plenty of different positions you can try with tummy time so find one that your baby likes (it is likely the older they get these may change)
🧡Stay with your baby at all times when they are on their tummy
🧡Start little and often with short periods of time to begin with.
🧡Only try tummy time when your baby is well rested and fed.
🧡Turn tummy time into playtime and use a variety of props to engage them:
💚Try different textured mats for them to lie on
💚A mirror for them to look at themselves in
💚Use rattles or balls for them to reach out for.

💛Let us know if you have any tips that make tummy time easier!

News Flash! Sensory Play is ANY activity that stimulates the senses. It doesn't have to be 'play in the traditional use of the word. It can be included in everyday activities.

❤️Talk to your baby about what you are doing (even if it is doing the laundry or preparing dinner)

❤️ When your baby is feeding make eye contact with them to strengthen your bond

❤️ Use bath time as an opportunity to explore hot and cold, wet and dry and the noises that can be made with a dripping tap/splashing water

❤️ Use nappy time to sing to your baby

❤️ Place your baby in different spots around the house to give them different views.

Happy Mother’s Day. It’s not always an easy day for everyone, so big love and hugs to those of you that find it painful....

Happy Mother’s Day. It’s not always an easy day for everyone, so big love and hugs to those of you that find it painful.

The journey to motherhood is not always straight forward or without it’s challenges, disappointment and heartbreak. I know how truly lucky I am ❤️❤️❤️

Time to Shake, Rattle and Roll! Well two out of three at least - we're not rolling, yet...........

Today it's all been about the audio! We've used traditional rattles, bell bands, ring rattles and rainmakers. Before I fell into the world of baby sensory I thought a rattle was 'just' a baby toy. Turns out there is so much more to it than that! They make great props to practice eye tracking, strengthen neck muscles, develop grip hold, teach cause and effect and to grab attention.

Our seahorse ring rattle is particularly easy to grasp hold of! Babies will firstly hold their rattles tightly with a strong grasp reflex. As their fine motor skills develop, they will learn to hold and shake their rattle in the air, and start to understand the concept of cause and effect. We're still only at the grasping stage so I've been helping to shake!

Our seahorse rattle will also double up as a teether in the coming months as it has a textured surface perfect for chewing and gnawing on!

We've got the seahorse rattles and bell bands on the website at a super price (which includes postage!!)
