As another wonderful week comes to an end, my heart is full of gratitude.

A huge thank you to all of the cruise ships, their wonderful passengers, and the # for making this such a special week. Thank you for bringing your amazing energy to our town, supporting our local shops, cafés, and businesses, and filling our streets with smiles, laughter, and kindness , we are thankful the weather 🌦️ didn’t stop you all ❤️

It has been a pleasure meeting so many wonderful people and creating memories we’ll treasure. We hope you’ve enjoyed your time in Stornoway as much as we’ve enjoyed welcoming you, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Inspired by the Stornoway Herring Girls of Scotland

These beautiful hand-knitted hats and ear warmers are inspired by the hardworking herring girls who travelled from Stornoway and across Scotland's coastal communities during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The "herring lassies" were an essential part of Scotland's fishing industry. Each summer they followed the fishing fleets from port to port, gutting, cleaning and packing herring for export. It was tough, cold work, often carried out in harsh weather conditions, and they became known for their resilience, skill and strong sense of community.

Warm woollen knitwear was a necessity for these women as they worked long hours on the quaysides and around the fishing stations. Traditional knitting patterns and practical designs were passed down through generations, creating garments that were both beautiful and functional.

These hand-knitted hats and ear warmers pay tribute to that heritage. Featuring textured cable patterns and rich maritime-inspired colours, they celebrate the strength, craftsmanship and enduring spirit of the Stornoway herring girls.

Each piece is individually hand knitted, making every one unique and carrying forward a small part of Scotland's remarkable coastal history.
