I have always had a great admiration for costume design through performance, the arts and theatre. Costume pieces and accessories that had to be beautifully eye-catching, but sturdy enough to withstand regular or sometimes very active use by its wearer. This, is what led me to creating sea-inspired
accessories for everyone from the aquarium performer to the every-day-mermaid and people who just want a little fantasy-inspired flare in their outfits. The UK mermaid community has grown vastly in the last few years, including over here in the United Kingdom with myself actively swimming into it in January 2018. I began creating headpieces of varying sizes, shapes and with different materials for myself, learning what worked and what didn't. Each piece I create is the result of my long-term commitment to ensuring pieces are top quality, and entirely one-of-a-kind. Lots of people in the mermaiding community love waterproof accessories, and so through getting to know some fantastic mermaids in the industry here whom professionally perform in tanks and aquariums across the country, and as a conservation biologist by trade myself, an extensive amount of research, trial and error went into finding the right products to create water-safe accessories. Though many Etsy businesses have beautiful packaging, I wanted mine to be as environmentally friendly as possible, therefore where ever possible I use re-used cardboard packaging and paper. for large crowns) and this will always be reused rather than virgin. Further to environmental awareness, many of my necklaces are created with up-cycled elements such as beading or findings from pre-loved jewellery which have been cleaned and are just as good as new.
