It feels wrong to interrupt what has been such an incredible week, watching so many of my beloved customers, my kids, my babies, represent their country at the Dance World Cup. But there is someone very special who deserves to be acknowledged.

Last week, we said goodbye to Abby.

When I was just 14, I was assisting in my dance school’s baby class. Even back then, I always tried to learn every child’s name. One of those names was Abigail.

Abby stayed at the dance school until I left 12 years later, meaning I had the privilege of watching her grow from a tiny little dancer into a confident, talented and beautiful young woman. After I left, Abby and her wonderful mum, Trish, continued to support Pointe Perfection for many years, even after she had moved away from Swindon.

After being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, she was told she would never dance again. She proved them wrong. She continued to dance, perform, teach, inspire and achieve more than many thought possible. Her determination was nothing short of extraordinary.

But when I think of Abby, I don’t just think of her bravery. I think of the fearless, confident little girl I first met all those years ago. I think of the kind, thoughtful, humble young woman she became. Someone who never let life’s challenges take away her love of dance or the joy she brought to others.

Abby said, “If I could tell myself six years ago everything I’ve achieved, I know she’d be incredibly proud because she felt so lost at the time.”

She would be incredibly proud. We all are.

Dance gave Abby so much throughout her life, but I know she gave just as much back to dance and to everyone lucky enough to know her.

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey from the very beginning. You will always be one of my originals, and you will never be forgotten.

Isabelle’s old shoe wasn’t fitting her foot correctly. She was in a strong shank that wasn’t able to conform to her arch. Instead, it was fighting against her foot, affecting both her support and alignment.

On the right is her new shoe. We actually didn’t feel the need to go any softer and stuck with a fairly hard shank. The difference is that this shoe fits her foot properly, allowing the shank to work with her arch rather than against it, giving her improved alignment, better support, and a much cleaner position en pointe.

It’s a great reminder that a harder shank doesn’t automatically mean less flexibility, and a softer shank isn’t always the answer. The fit of the shoe is what allows it to function as it was designed to.

Back to School is fast approaching... (We know some of you haven’t even broken up yet!)

That means it’s time to start thinking about those all-important pointe shoe fittings for the new school year.

From the end of August through to October is our busiest time of the year for fittings. We always do our very best to accommodate everyone, but if you leave booking until the last minute, we can’t guarantee we’ll have an appointment available.

We strongly recommend booking your fitting as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment.

If your preferred appointment isn’t available, we’ll be operating a waiting list and will contact you if a suitable slot becomes free.

If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice so we have the opportunity to offer your appointment to another dancer waiting for a fitting.
