Design vs. Reality. The design process can take many back-and-forth exchanges of ideas and samples. The Rainbow PJs are so pretty but I won’t stop until they are exactly how they should be. The border trim was first an option but looking at it, I think it will have to go. The rainbow print is gorgeous on its own!

🌞Good sunny morning to you all🌞 I have been working on this print, mostly in the size of the motif. The sun+moon was not designed by me, it was already there as a block design, but I picked it up and I’ve tried to make it work. The biggest question was how far apart should the suns be printed 🧐 But it’s quite pretty, right?

There is so much to say about block printing. Today I am focusing on these beautiful blocks that are themselves hand carved and used to prints endless rolls of fabrics in many colour combinations 🎨 “Hand block prints are made using sheesham wood. The wood is carved by hand with the motifs, outlines and fill blocks. 1 block per color in the print. Each block fits exactly into the overall design so the carving is quite precise. The carver imbeds markers along the sides of the block for the printer to use as guides when aligning the blocks during printing. The slight overlap and gap in the actual handwork is the emblematic look of blocks which is a result of imperfect alignment during printing.”
