🔥 What's your biggest challenge with torch firing silver metal clay?

No kiln? No problem! I make all my silver jewellery using Art Clay Silver and torch fire every piece

💍 Think these tiny charms took ages to fire?

From start to finish:�✨ 10 seconds to burn off the organic binder�✨ 10 seconds to bring it up to the perfect salmon pink firing temperature�✨ 1 minute 30 seconds to complete the firing (called sintering)
That's less than 2 minutes in total!

💡 Top Tip: Don't start your timer until the binder has completely burned away and your piece is glowing a lovely salmon pink. Your goal is to keep it at that colour throughout the firing—too cool and it won't sinter properly, too hot and you risk melting your silver!

Silver metal clay >> Top Tip >> these .us finishing touches moulds make fantastic embellishments to add to your pieces. Three different sizes of butterflies and you simply fill the mould with fresh clay or paste, wait for them to dry and they’ll literally drop out when you tap the mould

Pro Tip >> when attaching dry clay to dry clay, brush the surfaces with water and press in place. Run a brush dipped in water all around the edge of the butterfly. The clay will soften slightly, so do t use too much water, and by pressing with the clay shaper, you’ll secure the edges of the wings making a perfect seal around the join

✨ Want to stop the clay from sticking? Brush the mould with liquid release agent

✨ Want to personalise it? Leave your fingerprint on the back! If you prefer a smooth look, you can file the back when the clay is dry

SILVER METAL CLAY >> TOP TIP >> use fresh clay for the best results. Dry clay will split when you try to roll and shape it. Also, use water on a paintbrush to keep the coil moist as you roll it, and as it’s wet clay, it will stay in place with just water

SILVER METAL CLAY >> TOP TIP >> want to know how to get a patina this good? I heat the water before I mix in the patina gel. That speeds up the process and gives you a lovely, rich depth of colour

DID YOU KNOW? If the dark is too strong. You can knock it back using some bicarbonate of soda. Just rub the moist powder on to the piece and it will start to remove the patina from the surface of the piece
