This is for all my veterinary colleagues.
Our job is hard.
Some days are amazing; our patients heal, our operations are a success, our teams work together in a way that lifts us all, our clients are grateful for our knowledge and expertise.
Other days are some of the the worst we have. Patients don't survive, we may make a mistake (we ALL make mistakes), colleagues are stressed, clients complain or make those snide remarks about how we don't care or are only financially driven.
We expect a great deal of ourselves and the high personal standards that we constantly strive to meet, often mean we are our own greatest critics.
And life itself is difficult, pressure can come from many places.
But for veterinary professionals, whose sense of self worth is often closely entwined with their career, that pressure in whole or part, often comes from their job.
If you are in my world and are feeling under strain, please reach out and share that burden.
Talk to a colleague, a friend, post anonymously on a forum, Vetlife are available 24/7 by phone or email. You will find kindness, understanding and no judgement whatsoever wherever you chose to turn.
This world will always better with you in it.
