Another September rolls around. Always the busiest month for new babies, but so many other new beginnings too.
Seeing parents, I’ve worked with locally walking their babies into school for the first time, into nursery for the first time. All those first day pictures on here.

When you’re lucky enough to teach antenatal & hypnobirthing classes where you live, you make a big connection with lots of people..
They say the days are long, but the years are short. How true that is.
Today, my smallest baby started secondary school and the emotions have really hit.
I’m not going to tell anyone to ‘just enjoy every moment’ because sometimes when you’re in the thick of it, all you can do is get through the day.
I will tell you, you will look back and wish you could’ve pressed pause so many times through those years.
And to top off this morning, my eldest has just made me a cup of tea to ease my tears 💕 … and told me to get over it! 😂 Always the dose of reality for you!
I’m not crying, I’ve just got something in my eye 🥹
Wherever you are in your pregnancy or parenthood journey, sending emotional support for those that need it 💕

I was chatting to my sons today about the ‘family business’ and they were talking about taking it over!
I asked them how they would support people giving birth.
These were their words of encouragement!
I will let you guess which came from my older son and which my younger. Either way, I think you will be relieved to know….
they will most definitely not be taking over Brighter Birthing and NOT supporting your birth!
They might need a little training on motivation first!!!
To better prepare yourself or your birth partner, I have Hypnobirthing & Antenatal group courses running from October and private sessions available.
If you’re looking for a little extra support I have birth doula availability from October and postnatal support from September.
I promise not to use either of these phrases!

If you can’t shout about people being nice about you, what can you shout about… 📣
…so I’m not only sharing a very lovely post about yours truly…but also some very special images too.
I joined Tanya & Corinne’s Capture & Content day in June. I’m great at supporting other people but terrible at taking my own advice….and notoriously awful at my business admin (still don’t have my doula services on my website, despite training ages ago!).
The day was fabulous and these beautiful images were taken then, alongside Corinne’s content guidance and suggestions.
Supporting people through pregnancy and birth often means the connection to them runs deep. I’m thankful this one has continued for years 💕
Here’s Tanya’s very kind words….
“This week is World Breastfeeding Week so it seems fitting to shout out Leanne from Leanne / Birth Prep & Hypnobirthing Teacher & Doula
I first met Leanne about 8 years ago when she was recommended to me and we did a refresher hypnobirthing session with her when we were due to have Buzz.
I absolutely loved her weekly relaxation classes too - I found it so hard to give any time to bump second time around and she has THE most soothing voice.
Hypnobirthing isn’t all woo - it actually makes a lot of sense and Leanne is all about giving you knowledge to empower yourself through pregnancy and knowing your options - it’s not all about having the ‘perfect’ birth, it’s about preparing yourself for every eventuality.
Leanne is now also a trained Doula which I know she must be amazing at, and is involved with lots of other local initiatives including the 6 Week Social course and a Bump and Baby Coffee Meet Up that she hosts with a local midwife.
She’s a bloody great egg, and I can’t recommend her enough.
It was great to have her join the content day back in June and her photos are very evergreen so she will be able to use them all year round.”
Thank you Tanya | Photographer & Videographer and Corinne 👋 Mentoring & Tech Support for Local Sole Traders Corinne 👋 Local Small Business Networking in the Chilterns for all you do for small business owners ###

It’s World Breastfeeding Week, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to share some facts and also the first of the incredibly pictures that the very lovely Tanya | Photographer & Videographer captured.
There are so many struggles with conceiving, pregnancy, birth, feeding & parenthood. I always tell my clients that nobody has a completely smooth ride.
It’s important to recognise this. You’re not doing anything wrong if you’re struggling, but finding the courage to get support is important.
In the UK we have one of the biggest drop-offs in breastfeeding rates. At birth 86% try to breastfeed, six weeks later this has dropped to 55% and by six months just under 1 in 4 are still breastfeeding.
I’m not here to tell you how to feed your baby. I’m a big believer in maternal mental health first.
What I do find sad is that so many people want to breastfeed their baby, the NHS tells everybody the benefits of doing this, but there isn’t enough support postnatally to help me with this.
Swipe for some fab feeding facts.

Did you know, the bumps around a woman’s ni***es release fluids that comfort baby by smelling like the amniotic fluid that they grew in for 9 months.
So the breast can be used for comfort as well as feeding.
Swipe for more…

When a baby breastfeeds, all five of their senses connect baby to mum. They can feel her, see her, hear her, smell her + taste her.
The senses are overloaded in the best possible way.
You can read more about this by taking a peek at Sensory Education; neonatal, perinatal, paediatric posts
Swipe again…

I don’t consider myself a breastfeeding expert in any way, although as a postnatal doula I’m always happy to guide, reassure and offer support when I can but also recognise there are times when I’m best to signpost.
So I feel proud to run my bump & baby coffee meet ups with Birth & Beyond. Jo has been a friend for some years now and worked in the Infant Feeding team, she is a midwife and now a Lactation Consultant too.
She’s always my first contact for questions and recommendations…but we have some other great support locally.
You’re not supposed to do this alone, there is no shame in asking for help.
Building a community has been one of the proudes

If you’re looking for some postnatal support, perhaps to grow your friendship circle, you might be new to the area or just want a class that focuses on you as well as your baby….then look no further.
At 6 Week Social the focus is your postnatal recovery and wellbeing.
Each week I greet the mums with a hot drink, biscuits or fruit and maybe cuddle their little one so they can focus on one of the incredible specialists we have.
I watch friendships form and grow, confidence grow as the 4th trimester and changes and emotions experienced are normalised.
We have our baby class for little ones under 3 months and our Plus course when you are starting to consider weaning, returning to work or thinking about those first illnesses they might pick up at nursery.
I’d love for you to spend your September & October with us. I promise you won’t regret it.
Places booking fast. Classes every Wednesday in Berkhamsted.

Hello there 👋
I’ve had lots of new followers lately, so thought it was high time I did a little (long!) intro post!
I’m Leanne! I’m based in Hertfordshire and support parents across Herts, Beds & Bucks through pregnancy, birth and as their families grow.
I’ve been teaching Hypnobirthing for over 10 years and in that time I’ve had the honour of supporting hundreds of parents through their pregnancy.
I’m also a Doula, giving me the chance to support people firsthand as they bring their little ones into the world and harnessing years of antenatal experience and knowledge.
Postnatally, I host the 6 Week Social course in Berkhamsted which guides 1st, 2nd & 3rd time mums as they transition through the first few months with the assistance of some amazing local postnatal experts. We also have the Plus course as a follow on or for baby’s over 4months.
i’m also a Postnatal Doula, giving me the chance to hold space and support new parents when the nights feel endless, the questions overflow and sometimes it can feel very lonely or they just need an extra pair of hands.
This isn’t all I do, I’m an active member of Bucks MNVP giving a chance for parents voices to be heard and striving for change within the maternity system.
And I also help coordinate for Parents for Future locally, helping to make little changes locally to secure a better planet and future for all our children.
Community is important as your family grows and I also have the pleasure of hosting a bum and baby coffee morning with Jo from Birth & Beyond.
I love to learn and work with 2 increíble OT’s who specialise in Neonatal Sensory support & education and I’m training to be a therapist, so I can fully hold space for the people & families I work with.
When I’m not doing that, I have my own family. I love days out, jigsaws, movies walks and laughter with them.
Thanks for following me and please get in touch if I can help you. I definitely don’t have all the answers, I believe we are always learning but doing it together is so much easier.
😃 💜

Another brilliant Bump & Baby Coffee Meet Up this morning.
Possibly our busiest yet, which felt like a nice way to transition into the summer break.
Mixed feelings as some mums and babies that have been with us since we launched will return to work come September.
There were goodbyes and thank you’s for bringing the community and so many friendships together.
Whilst our next meet up isn’t until September, Jo and I are available across the summer for feeding support and antenatal education or to answer your questions where we can.
Thanks as always to Liz for sharing your beautiful coffee shop with us.
Have a lovely summer and we look forward to seeing you and building more friendship in September. Looking forward to seeing some of those bumps become babies!

Just a little update about what’s coming up over the next few months.
If your family is growing, I offer Antenatal & Hypnobirthing Refresher courses, taught from your home - no need for childcare.
If your work schedule doesn’t work around other classes, I offer private sessions taught from your home or mine.
Need additional support? I am a birth doula (availability from October) and postnatal doula (availability from September).
Grow your community and friendship circle with our Bump & Baby Coffee Meet Ups or Postnatally with the 6 Week Social Postnatal course for babies or 4+ months. A different specialist at each session.
Please get in touch or tag a pregnant pal. I’d love to support you. 😊

There’s a lot of coverage in the media about the maternity system at the moment, multiple reports released even this week.
Being in the birth world, keeping up with this is part of my job. Sometimes an exhausting part, I will confess.
It feels like everyone is being blamed, but no change is happening. It’s felt like that for some years. Lots of finger pointing at the midwives, at the parents and at Hypnobirthing teachers and doulas too.
We don’t need another report scaring expectant parents and telling people working in the maternity system what they already know.
We need more midwives.
We need continuity of care, which builds trust and improves experience and outcomes.
We need parents to be informed and educate themselves. I hear ‘I’m not allowed’ so often. Parents know you’re rights.
We need less induction for inductions sake, only if it is REALLY needed.
I don’t often share stuff like this, I don’t want to help spread the fear, but I was laid in bed this morning and my partner was reading the paper and exclaiming some horrific lines from an article.
He listens to me banging on about this ALL the time, the sensationalism. If he was believing what he read, what hope have parents got.
If we continue to create more fear, rather than campaign for change, this will just get worse.
More reports, more guidelines, more medicalisation.
If this resonates, contact your MP and ask for change. If you’re pregnant find an evidence based antenatal educator or book a doula. It doesn’t have to be me, but education makes a difference.
Eye roll picture was for my partner this morning, but also for all the media headlines and the whole breakdown in the system.
