Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.

Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local au

thorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:

∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).

∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.

∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.

∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.

∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.

∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.

∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟯 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

The Truro Half Marathon returns this year on Sunday 13 September and starts at 9.30am from Lemon Quay (registration opens at 8am and the race HQ is at Hall for Cornwall).

The half marathon course is almost entirely on road. It begins with a loop of central Truro, and runs out to Porth Kea, Playing Place and Cowlands so involves a few hills.

Note that registration closes Saturday 12 September 2026 at 12:00.

The event organisers are offering a number of free stalls to relevant city centre Truro businesses from 8.30am until 1pm on the day. For example sports and fitness businesses such as sports retailers, local physiotherapists, personal trainers, gyms and yoga studios. Participating businesses would have a gazebo where they could promote their business.

𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀, 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲

It may feel early to talk about Christmas, however our small Truro BID team is already planning festivities, and we're aware businesses need to start planning rotas.

There will be four Late Night Shopping evenings in Truro from Wednesday 2 December until Wednesday 23 December and we encourage shops to be open until 9pm. Truro businesses, please plan your rota's and payroll budgets around these dates.

The Father Christmas Parade, organised by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors, will take place on 2 December to coincide with the first Late Night Shopping evening.

Truro BID funds, installs and maintains the Christmas lights, including storage and electricity. They will switch on automatically on Saturday 21 November, to coincide with the first day of Truro Christmas Market* on Lemon Quay and Boscawen Street Christmas Markets.

The Christmas events calendar will be shared with businesses in our printed autumn newsletter, hand delivered to city centre businesses in the autumn. Full event listings will also be at www.visittruro.org.uk.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

Truro businesses are invited to the monthly Shop Watch meeting, on Tuesday 1 September 10am at Training Room 4a, Pydar House, Pydar St, TR1 1XU.

Shop Watch meetings give businesses a chance to share city centre crime related topics, local knowledge and issues with other businesses, Truro's anti-social behaviour officer, the police and Truro BID.

It would be great to have lots of businesses and organisations joining in, so just turn up to the Shop Watch meeting on Tuesday 1 September.

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹

As communicated last month, there is free parking at County Hall (Lys Kernow) on Saturdays and Sundays. Please tell your customers that there are 60 spaces available at Cornwall Council's car park at the front of County Hall.

Car park users can then head down to the city centre by bus from the stop outside Food Warehouse or on foot down Chapel Hill or Station Road.

Along with other buses, the Park and Ride serves this stop on Saturdays. Bus tickets, including the Park and Ride, can be bought from the driver or via the Transport for Cornwall App. The free parking at County Hall is a trial, so share the news to help show that there is a need for this initiative.

The Truro Food Festival is returning to Lemon Quay on Wed 23 - Sun 27 Sept to celebrate Cornwall’s food and drink. It will be open 9am to 5pm Wed and Thurs, 9am to 6pm Fri and Sat, plus Sun 10am to 4pm.

The festival is set to feature award-winning producers and top Cornish chefs, along with live music.

If you’re a food and drink business in the city centre, your business would be promoted within the Truro Food Festive programme if you are hosting relevant activities within your venue between Wed 23 and Sun 27 Sep. Please email the event organiser [email protected] with details of:
- a food or drink event within your premises (e.g. a tasting session, a feast night)
- a food or drink promotion in store (e.g. a special menu)
- any live music or entertainment at your venue, during or ideally after food festival opening times, to reach visitors already in Truro. This can be an already planned event and does not need to be food or drink related.

The Truro Food Festival is organised by Cornwall Event Cabins in partnership with Truro Farmers Market.

A reminder that until Monday 31 August inclusive, children aged 5-15 can travel completely free on bus services across Cornwall as part of the Government's Great British Summer Savings initiative. Truro businesses, do let your customers know!

- Children under 5 already travel free all year round. Children under 11 must be accompanied by a fare-paying adult or an adult travelling with a valid concessionary bus pass.
- If you're 16–18, please continue to buy a child ticket when you travel.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝟲 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿

As you may have spotted there is a traffic management sign in Boscawen Street giving dates of Highway Improvement Works that Cormac are planning from Monday 7 September to Friday 6 November.

Cornwall Council’s Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2026, which we’ve found online, confirms the planned highway works in Truro.

The following roads are expected to close 24 hours a day, including weekends:

• Lower Lemon Street, between Back Quay and Boscawen Street
• Boscawen Street, between Lower Lemon Street and Princes Street
• The full length of Princes Street.

The closure, is required to lift, clean and reset granite cobbles.

Businesses, we will liaise with the Cormac team once on site and share any further information. We fully understand if you have concerns about the closures.

Cormac will signpost an alternative route, maintain pedestrian access to all properties and can be contacted on 0300 1234 222.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

Thank you to everyone who attended the Truro Traders Meeting last Friday 7 August, which covered topics suggested by the businessses who told us they were attending.

Along with 14 different resident businesses and the Truro BID Team, the meeting was attended by:
- David Rodda (Town Clerk, Truro City Council)
- Naomi Belert (Community Link Officer for Truro, Cornwall Council) who will take back questions to Cornwall Council.
- PC Grimstead from Devon and Cornwall Police (to answer ASB questions)
MP Jayne Kirkham attended (at short notice) and answered questions on business rates, VAT and policing. Other topics discussed included: events, markets and Christmas in Truro. Meeting notes will be sent out in to all attendees.

Please note: in early January 2027, there will be a specific Levy Payers Meeting which will give Truro BID Levy Payers only a chance to feedback on current and future projects and initiatives delivered by Truro BID.
