👋 Meet Sam – Acting Team Leader (North Team)

We’re excited to introduce Sam, who is currently supporting the North team as Acting Team Leader!

Sam’s journey in Reablement began back in 2018 when the service was first established, starting as a Support Worker. Before that, Sam had experience working in a care home for older people and supporting individuals with learning disabilities—bringing a wealth of knowledge into the role from day one.

With a real drive to develop, Sam took on a secondment as a Senior one day a week, before stepping into a full-time Senior role in 2020. Alongside this, Sam achieved a Level 3 in Health and Social Care in 2023 and is currently working towards a Level 4 qualification.

At the end of 2024, Sam took on a new challenge as an Assistant Manager in a private home care company. Although it was a valuable experience, it didn’t take long to realise how much Reablement was missed! Sam returned in May 2025 and quickly settled back into the team.

More recently, Sam successfully secured a 9-month secondment as Acting Team Leader for the North team—an exciting next step in their leadership journey.

Sam says: 💬 “I genuinely love the people I work with—they are supportive, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. No two days are ever the same, which keeps me on my toes and continues to support my development and confidence.”

It’s been fantastic to see Sam grow alongside the service and reflect on just how far Reablement has come since those early days. We’re really pleased to have Sam leading and supporting the North team during this time 👏

Supporting team connection during a busy working day.

A lunchtime team catch-up provided an opportunity to pause, share ideas and reflect during a busy day.

These informal moments create valuable space for colleagues to connect, exchange knowledge and maintain a strong sense of teamwork across the Reablement service.

Taking time to support one another helps strengthen collaboration and contributes to the delivery of effective, person-centred care.

🌞 In the warm weather, we've been sharing some simple but important ways to help you and those around you stay safe and well.

Today's tips are about the signs of heat-related illness: do you know them and what to do?

⚠️ Signs of heat exhaustion in both children and adults include:
- Tiredness
- Dizziness
- A headache
- Feeling or being sick
- Excessive sweating and skin becoming pale and clammy
- Cramps in the arms, legs or stomach
- A high temperature
- Being very thirsty
- Feeling irritable.

💧What to do if you or someone else has heat exhaustion
- Move to a cooler place such as a room with air conditioning or somewhere in the shade
- Remove all unnecessary clothing (like jackets or socks)
- Give them plenty of water to drink: you can also give them an isotonic sports drink or oral rehydration powder that you mix with water, which will help replace salt lost through sweating
- Cool their skin: spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them. Cold packs, wrapped in a cloth and put under the armpits or on the neck are good too.
- Stay with them until they're better: they should start to cool down and feel better within 30 minutes

🏥 When to seek medical help
Call 111 if you or someone else have symptoms of heat exhaustion that you're struggling to treat or if you need some advice

Call 999 if you or someone else has signs of heatstroke. These include:
- Still being unwell after 30 minutes of resting in a cool place, being cooled and drinking fluids
- A very high temperature; hot skin that's not sweating and might look red (this can be harder to see on Black or Brown skin)
- A fast heartbeat; fast breathing or shortness of breath
- Confusion or lack of coordination
- A seizure or fit
- Loss of consciousness

Staying independent at home is about building confidence in everyday life. Here are a few simple ways to help:
✨ Keep active with small daily tasks like making meals or tidying up
✨ Use aids or adaptations around the home to stay safe
✨ Take your time — it’s OK to do things at your own pace
✨ Ask for support when needed, but stay involved in tasks
