Duty vs Dharma 🏹

Duty as defined by the English dictionary, it’s narrow and single-tracked.

Now as I am leaning deeply into my Dharma, one could also say that translates to duty. However, one major difference here is that this Sanskrit word is steeped in a rich journey.

There are over ten words that translate to duty in the Sanskrit language. This opens a breath of air for my spirit to lean into. 🧩

The Pattern in the Pieces 🧩

In the spirit of my name, Śilpa, I am now carving a path untrodden.

I have spent the last few years, leaning into my craft, and what it is about the stitches that keep me in my flow. From where I stand now, the lines look different. I am seeing clearly what was life, what was duty, and what was truly me.

As I have deepened my gaze into what draws me into these techniques and skills — Opposed to what happens through my hands in an innate manner, casts my minds eye to the Shastras, and the ancient knowledge that is at the foundation of harmony in many places we feel at peace.

I hope that as I share these taps of the chisel, they might tap into some resonance for you too—carving out a path that hasn’t been walked before. 🪡🌬️
