Just look at these two mummys... πŸ₯°

A few weeks ago they walked into my sewing studio as complete strangers.

Neither of them had ever made baby clothes before, or touched a sewing machine for that matter.

Fast forward seven weeks...

Not only have they made some beautiful handmade outfits for their little ones... they've also found a friendship that I really hope lasts long after maternity leave ❀️

This is why I created Mummy SEW-cials.

Yes, you'll learn how to sew.

Yes, you'll create gorgeous handmade clothing for your baby.

But you'll also...

πŸ’— Find time for yourself.
β˜• Meet other mums who just get it.
🧡 Learn a skill you'll have for the rest of your life.
✨ Leave every week feeling proud of what you've achieved.

And just look at these little outfits... 🀩

Can you believe these mummies were complete beginners just a few weeks ago?

I honestly couldn't be prouder of everything they've achieved.

I absolutely can't wait to welcome them both back after the summer holidays for our Autumn Mummy SEW-cials, where we'll be sewing with even more beautiful fabrics and creating cosy autumn wardrobe staples, including jumpers, fleeces, hoodies and so much more! πŸ‚πŸ§₯

πŸ‚ Autumn Mummy SEW-cials are now OPEN for booking.

If you've been thinking about learning to sew, making something special for your little one and meeting some amazing mums along the way...

I'd love to welcome you too.

Because this really might be...

✨ The best thing you do on maternity leave too. ✨

This is Catherine and Jacob. ❀️

And honestly, this picture made my absolute week.

Catherine found out about me through a friend who told her during mat leave, "You need to go and learn how to sew with Debbie. It'll be the best thing you do on mat leave."

So she did.

She booked onto her first SEW-cial back in February. No experience. Just a mum looking for something that was hers during those early months with Jacob.

And over the last few months, I've watched her transform.

Not just as a sewist (though look at this outfit Jacob's wearing... she made that, from scratch, with her own two hands). But as a person. Coming into class a bit lost, a bit foggy from early motherhood, and slowly finding her spark again.

She's made new friends. Real friendships with the other mums in the group. The kind where you know you'll actually keep in touch. She's finished projects she never thought she could do. She's spent time doing something creative, something just for her, while her little one grows.

But here's the thing that got me.

Catherine was the first to admit that mat leave hasn't always been easy. The fog is real. The loneliness is real. The feeling of disappearing is real.

But she told me that coming along to the SEW-cials gave her exactly what she needed. Something to learn. Something to create. A way to feel like herself again.

This week was her last class before she heads back to work. πŸ₯Ί

And her parting words to me were, "This is definitely the best thing I've done on maternity leave. I've loved every single class."

Seriously, it made my week.

But Catherine's sewing journey doesn't stop here. She's now joined This Mummy Sews Members Club so she can keep going at home. Keep learning. Keep creating. Keep that spark alive.

Because this is what I believe. Motherhood is beautiful and hard and all-consuming. But you don't have to lose yourself in it.

You deserve time for you. Time to create. Time to remember who you are.

That's what sewing does.

If you're on mat leave right now and thinking, "Maybe I need something like this too..." you do. Trust me.

Join my free Facebook group. Come along to a SEW-cial. See if this is your thing.

Because Catherine's story could be yours.

This machine and I have history. πŸ₯°

9 years ago, I spotted her on Facebook Marketplace. An industrial overlocker, sitting there waiting for someone who'd treasure her. And honestly? I pinch myself every time I look at this picture because of what happened next.

The machine belonged to someone's Grandma who'd sadly passed away. And when I realised who was selling it? It was an ex-pupil of mine. Someone I knew really well. Someone who lived just down the road.

She was over the moon that her Grandma's precious machine was going to someone who'd look after it and cherish it.

I was absolutely made up.

At the time, I was running Lola-Pops on domestic machines. They were fine, but I knew if I wanted to take things to the next level, THIS was it. And she was right. This machine changed everything. Fast. Professional. Reliable.

And you know what? I still have her sat proudly at This Mummy Sews HQ. I use her less now because I sold Lola-Pops last year to focus fully on helping mums start their sewing journey. But when she comes out? Magic happens.

The mums at my SEW-cials love getting a whizz on her. Just to feel how fast and amazing a proper machine can be.

So here's the thing. If you're thinking about starting to sew but you're telling yourself you can't afford a machine, or you don't deserve one... stop right there.

There are so many incredible pre-loved sewing machines out there waiting for someone like you. Machines with stories. Machines that are absolute workhorses. Machines that won't break the bank.

You just need to know what to look for.

That's exactly why I created my free guide to choosing your first sewing machine. No industrial beasts required. Just practical, honest advice on what actually matters when you're starting out.

Join my free Facebook group and download it. Meet the mums who are doing this. See what's possible.

Leyla, if you're reading this... it's still going strong after all these years. Thank you for trusting me with your Grandma's precious machine. πŸ’›

Look at this. 😍

Two little ones in mummy-made barrel pants on a sunny day, jumping on a trampoline like they own the place.

And honestly? I bet someone scrolling past this right now is thinking "I wish I could make something like that for my babies."

Here's the truth. You can.

I know what you're thinking. "But I've never sewn before. I don't have a fancy setup. I barely have time to shower, let alone learn something new." Trust me, I've been there. Three little ones, no clue what I was doing, convinced I'd fail before I even started.

But then I bought a Β£40 second-hand sewing machine and gave myself permission to try.

And now I get to watch mums like the one who made these stunning pants create something they never thought they could. Outfits their babies actually wear. Pieces they made with their own hands.

That could be you.

You don't need experience. You don't need a fancy sewing room. You just need a bit of time for yourself and a community of mums who get it. Who won't judge your wonky seams. Who'll celebrate with you when you finish your first project.

Join my free Facebook group. Meet the mums who are doing this. See what's possible. And maybe, just maybe, you'll discover that little ni**le inside you was actually your creative self trying to get out.

Let's make something together. πŸ‘‡

This picture takes me back. πŸ₯Ίβ€οΈ

I'm at a pop up stall, baby Grace in my arms, surrounded by fabric and samples. This was how I grew Lola-Pops (the business I sold in August 2025). No fancy website. No big plan. Just me, a Β£40 second-hand sewing machine from eBay and the absolute desperation to create something that was MINE.

Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing.

I was a mum of three at this point. Sleep deprived. Overwhelmed. Lonely. Lost in the fog of early motherhood and wondering who the hell I was anymore. And somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, I'd decided to buy a battered old sewing machine and give it a go.

Nothing was figured out. Nothing was perfect. My seams were wonky. My patterns were basic. But there was something magical about it. Something that made me feel like ME again, even if it was just for an hour while the house was quiet.

So I kept going. Sold at pop ups. Took orders. Made things in the pockets of time I could find. Built a whole business around it because I needed it to survive.

And you know what? That Β£40 machine changed everything.

Not because I became some amazing seamstress overnight. But because I remembered I was capable of creating something. Of finishing something. Of being more than just "mum."

If you're on mat leave right now and feeling sleep deprived, overwhelmed, invisible, a bit lost... I get it. I really do.

This is why I created This Mummy Sews. Because every mum deserves that moment. That feeling of "I made this."

You don't need experience. You don't need the perfect setup. You just need to give yourself permission to try.

Join my free community group and let's explore this together. Because honestly? Sewing might just be the thing that brings you back to yourself too.
