As a Woking resident and business owner, I genuinely don’t understand the Woking Council’s high parking charges. So many of the car parks seem half empty, while people I know are choosing to shop in other Surrey towns where parking is cheaper—or even free.

I want Woking to succeed, but making it expensive to visit doesn’t seem like the best way to encourage people into the town centre. Surely fuller car parks and busier shops would be better for everyone?

Sustainable thought of the day…

Before you write off polyester, remember this: the most sustainable garment is often the one that’s already been made.

Natural fibres are fantastic, but extending the life of existing clothing is even better.

Take the jacket I’m wearing today. It’s a polyester jacket that’s around 45 years old. Instead of ending up in landfill decades ago, it was rescued, repaired, and given a new lease of life. Forty-five years after it was made, it’s still doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Think about that for a moment. How many items bought new today will still be worn and loved in 2071?

Sustainability isn’t always about buying something different. Sometimes it’s about valuing what already exists and keeping it in use for as long as possible.

♻️ A rescued 45-year-old jacket.
🌍 No new resources needed.
👕 Another chapter in its story.

The greenest clothes aren’t always the newest, or even the natural ones. Often, they’re the ones that have already stood the test of time.
