As an owner of four Greyhound beauties, I am never more amazed than when I see dogs being walked in hot weather; it actually makes me very cross.

Why do people walk their dogs in the heat?

Walk your hounds early morning and late in the evening when the Mercury has dropped - it really isn't rocket science.

Walking dogs in the heat puts them at severe risk for heatstroke and paw pad burns.

Unlike humans, dogs cannot sweat through their skin to cool down—they rely almost entirely on panting. When the air is hot and humid, panting becomes ineffective, causing their internal body temperature to spike dangerously fast, which can lead to organ failure or death. Additionally, surfaces like asphalt trap heat and can easily burn and blister their sensitive paws.
