☀️💛 Memories Made 💛☀️

Nothing new to see if you've clocked my stories recently, but this feels like it's worthy of a permanent grid space.

I did wonder if I would ever be in a position to take this little bundle of wonder on a summer holiday abroad again. And while it feels like it's been an uphill struggle sometimes, what a shift the last few years has brought!

And what a lovely time we have had away from 'the daily doing' for the first time in so long! And how chuffed I am to have been able to make it happen.

While I think summer holiday pricing is extortionate, to spend this time away with my girl and my dad in the sunshine was worth every penny.

My heart is happy.

Have you ever noticed that when you say a 'but' it turns what you're saying into a negative or takes something away from it?

There is nothing negative here. AND it's all true. At the same time.

AND I find it hard

♡ It's an honour to be her whole world
AND I feel the weight of it

♡ I'm doing my best
AND often I have no idea if it's enough

♡ She will always be my priority
AND I sometimes miss the freedom to just do me.

♡ I know that I was made to be her mum
AND I question if I can do it

Sleepover! 🎬 🍿🛏 🥱

To be fair, every night ends up as a sleepover in my bed, but on a Saturday, we do it intentionally, with a movie and snacks. (I know right, how rock n roll are my Saturday nights these days?!)

Today we picked out new pjs from M&S, just because! We had a candlelit bath (yes, "we" because she always gatecrashes,) got our new pjs out of the dryer and got comfy. Don't we look the picture of cuteness and joy? 🥰

What you don't see is how challenging today was for us both, how little patience I've managed to muster, or her outpouring of big emoshies and tears.

So we cuddled a little longer tonight. We talked about my grumpyness and I owned it, and she told me (finally) what had triggered her meltdown, and we agreed to be gentle on ourselves cos, ya know what?! We're pesky humans and every day is not a bed of roses - so we take the cuteness and joy wherever the hell we can find it!

Oh, and I have total envy that her pjs came with a sleep mask and mine didn't! 😒

Today was a bit emosh tbh. Found myself crying hysterically for a good half an hour.

Not because I'm a perimenopausal, hormonally baffled halfwit. Not because I'm a fraught and frazzled single parent. Not because I'm run down and a bit poorly. Not because my "time off" over half term has drained me energetically, emotionally and financially. Not because I'm still kinda new to my hearing aids and completely overstimulated 90% of the time as a result. Not because of the fact that it's November and the inevitable mental load of Christmas looms.

Because of broccoli. Yep, that's right. F&*!ing broccoli. (And possibly all of the aforementioned things combined, as well?? 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️).

I remembered to buy the broccoli. I remembered to cook the broccoli. I completely failed to serve the broccoli though, and we ended up with a weird second course of just luke warm broccoli (because in my rage, I plain refused to bin it) and it about god dam pushed me over the edge!

Still, when the 6 year old chimes in with "I'm not sure it's really about broccoli at all mummy" there is at least a glimmer of hope that SOMETHING has gone very right.
