He cycled in… and cycled out in yellow 💛

Meet Monty Desforges, the first recipient of our relaunched Yellow Guernsey, awarded for his commitment to active travel and his work leading the Sixth Form Centre's Active Travel Group.

Exclusive "sunburst" yellow, inspired by the Tour de France (kicking off this weekend!)

Congrats Monty, incredibly well deserved 👏

With the Tour de France starting this weekend you’ll be familar with the yellow jersey, but now you’ll need to look out for the yellow guernsey! 💛

Exclusively awarded to people who show a commitment to active travel on the island, the yellow guernsey initiative has been relaunched and is jointly run by The Health Improvement Commission and Better Journeys Project with support from the Tom Dorey Eco Legacy. Tom was a keen cyclist and winner of the award in 2023.

The commission approached us some time ago to discuss producing a very special guernsey that could be awarded to winners. We intentionally chose and sourced a specific yellow, called sunburst - a really bright, distinctive colour, reminiscent of the Tour de France jersey that will be exclusive to this project (sorry, they won’t be available for purchase!)

The first recipient of this yellow guernsey was Monty Desforges from the Sixth Form Centre. Monty was responsible for leading the school’s Active Travel Group, dedicating a lot of time and energy to the project in his last few years at the school. He of course rode into the shop today to receive his award.

Monty was such a deserving and humble winner and we loved seeing him cycle off in his new guernsey 🚲

A peaceful potter at our latest photoshoot

No we don’t use AI and yes a lot of the time it’s shuffling something “a bit more to the left, no not that far, pull it back a bit - ooops too far!”

Trying to hang a flat garment in a way that works on camera can also push us to the limit of overthinking everything…

Postcards from the Town Church.

A familiar and friendly face in St Peter Port, the Reverend Penny Graysmith made local history when she became the first woman to be appointed Vice-Dean in Guernsey.

In 2023, Penny became Rector of the Town Church, bringing with her the warmth and compassion she developed through years of service as a hospital and hospice chaplain.

Today, Penny continues to serve the St Peter Port parish, helping to foster a community rooted in inclusivity, kindness and connection.

Postcards from the Willow Workshop.

Max Gaudion is a master willow basket maker, crafting traditional fishing baskets that are still used by local fishermen and foragers today.

Unique to Guernsey, 'the poniers à cous' are used for gathering ormers and other shellfish, while the 'courges' are traditionally used to store sand eel bait.

One of the oldest custodians of this Island craft, Max learnt the art of willow basket making from his Uncle Wilfred and has since passed those skills on to his daughter Claire, who now hand weaves baskets alongside her father.

Postcards from The Imperial.

Paul Le Sauvage can be found at our local West Coast pub, The Imperial, where he organises and runs the weekly meatdraw on Friday and Saturday nights.

A decades-old Guernsey tradition, the meatdraw is a raffle-style event held in pubs and community clubs where winners have the chance to win locally sourced meats including BBQ packs, whole roasting joints, fresh crab and lobster, and even all the ingredients needed for Bean Jar, Guernsey's famous slow-cooked pork and bean cassoulet.

Who’s that smart looking bunch? It’s us, the Le Tricoteur team in all our finery on Saturday morning.

There are very few occasions that call for us to close the shop, but we couldn’t say no to an invite to attend His Majesty the King’s official birthday celebrations at the invite of His Excellency The Lieutenant-Governor this weekend.

New frocks were bought and we raised a glass in the sunshine to celebrate the amazing local people who had been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

It was wonderful to have a sneak peek around the beautiful gardens of Government House, including the kitchen & cutting gardens. For many of us it was the first time to Government house and it was a proper treat ❤️
