I’m back with some photos from another project I worked on. The theme was modern vintage with a touch of fabric manipulation 🤓

Fabric manipulation is a technique used to change the appearance and/or texture of fabric. The techniques I used were light draping on the top of the dress and added appliqué around the waist ✨

I chose chiffon as it is a good choice for evening wear and for creating flowy and elegant garments. I made a one shoulder gown with bishop sleeve 👗

Here are some photos from another school project I worked on. The assignment was to make a garment using Lycra fabric 🤓

Did you know that Lycra is a type of synthetic fiber that is very elastic and can stretch to 5-8 times its usual size 🙆🏾‍♀️ For this reason it is advisable to reduce bust, waist and hip measurements when sewing.

This time around I wanted to make something that could be worn at a formal event and decided to work with the colour red as it is timeless, elegant and a great choice for evening functions 💃🏾

I decided to make a boat neck gown with cowl back and added lace appliqué🪡

Here are some photos from another school project I worked on. The theme was ‘Rayon’ - the assignment was to make a garment using rayon fabric. Did you know that rayon is a man - made fibre which is also known as synthetic silk ☺️

I decided to make a front- twist circular dress with pockets 👗 I made a circular dress as the fabric drapes well and is flowy. The sleeve style I chose is called flutter sleeve and I added a slit in the middle.

Here are some photos from one of the school projects I worked on. The process involved sketching the design ✍️, drafting patterns for the design and sewing the garments 🧵

The theme was ‘Cotton’ - the assignment was to make a garment using cotton fabric. Did you know that Denim is a strong cotton fabric? ☺️

I decided to make a shirt 👔 and jumpsuit to go with it. I had never made a shirt before so decided to use this opportunity to make one and wanted to incorporate big sleeves. The sleeve style I chose is called Leg-Of -Mutton as it resembles the leg of a mutton 🐑

Hi 👋🏾

I hope you’re enjoying 2024 so far. In December I graduated from Fashion school with an A grade! Glory to God! 🙌🏾

Was it easy? Oh no! There were many sleepless nights 😴 I experienced weight loss, “the pressure was getting worser”😩🤣 and deadlines were continuous ⏰ but overall I learnt so much. I’m thankful that I have been able to achieve my goals.

Some of the goals I wrote down were:
•to become faster at sewing
•to learn new sewing techniques
•to become more experienced in making advanced patterns and designs.

Here are some pictures of the outfit I made for my graduation 🎓The outfit is made from Kente cloth which is a handwoven fabric first created by the Akan people of Ghana 🇬🇭

The word Kente means “hand woven”. Kente is woven by hand using a loom made out of wood. The basic technique is to take several strips of cloth and sew them together by hand until a large cloth is made.

I’ll share more about my fashion school journey as well as different projects I’ve been working on 🪡

It’s been a while I know 🙆🏾‍♀️ I hope you’re doing well and enjoying Easter Monday.

Life Update: I’m currently based in Accra, Ghana 🇬🇭 where I’ve been working on developing my craft. I feel so blessed and fortunate that I have the opportunity to be here.

For those who may not know here are some fun facts about me:

My name is Josie Abena Selom Agyeman. I am of Ghanaian descent, was born and raised in London and am a Born Again Christian ✝️

I am an up - and - coming Fashion Designer 👗It was back in 2015 that I started to discover and develop my love for sewing and design. God has taken me on a journey and I am so grateful.

The name Josie means God will add/Increase.
The name Abena is a Ghanaian name for a female born on Tuesday.

I have 3 siblings and am the eldest ☺️

I love travelling ✈️ and experiencing different cultures. I have visited Italy and South Africa and lived in Fiji for a year.

I love to bake, banana cake and cinnamon buns are some of my signature desserts👩🏾‍🍳

My favourite colour is purple but I’m learning to embrace other colours on the colour wheel 😂

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology 👩🏾‍🎓

I’m a Lauryn Hill fan, and was privileged to see her live in 2012 🤩

I’m currently watching a TV series called Abbott Elementary, it’s so funny 😆 I definitely recommend you watch it. Are there any TV series you would recommend?

Throwback to the time I was a wedding guest 🎉

There was no talk of 15 guests only, mandatory face masks or lockdown. I look forward to making and wearing more gowns this year God willing 🙏🏾
