MY EARLY MORNING LESSON
TOPIC: ARE YOU YOUR BROTHERS' KEEPER OR YOUR BROTHERS' KILLER?
A keeper of his brothers is not the one who pampers them with lies. A true keeper of his brother is the one who will tell him the bitter truth to his face, which might break his heart but save his soul in the long run. An authentic keeper of his brother is not soft to the point that truth becomes subjective to him, and as such, he admonishes the one he calls his brother or his sister based on what the person would like to hear. Once you play with the truth, you have played with your brother and your brotherhood has become shallow and fake. A brother's keeper is not the one who drinks and shouts at the top of his voice inside a bar, a restaurant or a club; a true brothers keeper is the one who will stand by you when life clubs out sanity from your life. Cain was clear with the fact that he wasn't his brother's keeper and for that, I commend him. Most of us on the other hand claim to be the keepers of our brothers, yet we are the one behind the trigger that shot them dead. We claim to be protecting their interests, but it's our selfish interest that is our major area of concern, and for that, we can kill, lie and blackmail to retain and maintain our interests, even if it means sacrificing those we call brothers.
It's a world where the word 'brother' or 'sister' has become mandatory, and even enemies call each other 'brothers.' A world where people who wish you death will turn and call you, "my brother." It's a world where someone who sat over a cup of coffee and drank your name like coffee, even as he spills out lie after lie about you, just to darken you life and keep you down, will come out and shake your hands and call you 'my brother. ' It's a world where people pray together as brothers and sisters, but they also have daggers of gossip, swords of hunger for power, bombs of blackmail, guns of lies, stones of judgement, missiles of condemnation, and even while they pray, they still plot on how to make each other a prey. A world where one brother or sister steps on other brothers and sisters, and he or she smartly uses them as his ladder to grasp everything. Cain now has many descendants and that is why amidst brothers and sisters, you don't find justice, equity and fairness, and whosoever raises his or her voice against these, must be murdered like Abel. We all ought to revisit the true definition of the word "brother," and we must reconsider the meaning of the word "brotherhood." Until then, we will keep killing our brothers and sisters in the name of keeping them. The purest of love is fraternal; when it is not truly fraternal, then it becomes destructive. Let's wake up and call a spade, a spade.
