Meet Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, the first female jet fighter pilot in the 55 year history of the Nigerian Air Force.

Kafayat Sanni made history after emerging as the overall best pilot at the NAF 401 Flying Training School in Kaduna in 2017. Her excellence earned her a slot in the United States Aviation Leadership Programme, where she trained and sharpened her edge.

After completing the programme, she returned to Nigeria and was officially decorated alongside 12 other fighter pilots at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja. She also became the first woman to fly Alpha Jets in the Nigerian Air Force.

Her story stands alongside that of the late Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, who trained for 14 months at Starlite International Training Academy in South Africa to become Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot.

Two women. Two firsts. One powerful message. Excellence has no gender. The sky was never the limit.
