Napp Studio & Architects is a design office that works across scales between space and object - from architecture, interior, exhibition to furniture and product. As architects, we approach des

ign subjects through series and layers of rigorous operations e.g. social, formal, practical, structural and environmental, which are translated in all scales. Our practice has won several local and international awards including Gold Award in Taipei International Design Award and Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award; and our works have been exhibited in a number of exhibitions e.g. 16th International Venice Architecture Biennale, SPARK The Science and Art of Creativity, Hong Kong/Shen Zhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture. Napp Studio & Architects was founded by Aron TSANG Wai-Chun and Wesley HO Hung-Lai in 2016.

A playful imaginative proposal for from our old archive of using 3D print to transform pasta typologically. Do you like the plan and section drawings of a pasta?

【 3D PRINT PASTA - LASAGNE CIALDA 】⁣⁣⁣

Sauce is the soul of pasta whose shapes and types are historically evolved to interact with the sauce differently. Lasagne Cialda is a hybrid of various forms of common pastas so as to multiply the interaction between pasta and sauce with other ingredients, hence diversifying the food experience within a single plate of pasta. It transforms a typical lasagne which tends to have repetitive layers of pasta and sauce into a 3 dimensional cialda (“a 3d waffle”) with varying modular densities and shapes.

Beyond the modular look, each level of densities and each type of shapes in a single Lasagne Cialda curate a different kind of pasta experience when the sauce is poured over the pasta. Surprises are concealed in its apparently homogenous look. As one enjoy Lasagne Cialda from one end to the other, a “crescendo” of stimulation in texture and sauce unfolds.

【 ADVENTIST MEDICAL CENTRE 】⁣⁣⁣

The highly sanitized typical white medical interiors are not unfamiliar to everyone. However, with the recent booming wellness industry that focuses not just on physical but also mental well-being, Adventist Medical Centre is a pilot project to transform medical interior and elevate user experience without sacrificing operational needs. The entire concept originates from Adventist Health’s branding color pink with a twist that relates wellness to natural scenery. The design intends to borrow the materiality and ambience of canyon and pink lake that radiate a sense of security and warmth. Subverting the typical white and clinical interior that is often unpleasant to the users due to a lack of natural or human touch, an earthy material palette with various shades of pink and beige is adopted to render a cosy and peaceful environment that calm one’s body and mind.

An archived project sharing! A public toilet concept we developed back in 2020! We still want to realise it somewhere someday! 🤍💚

【 UNDER THE LEAF 】⁣⁣⁣

In backstreets and hush-filled corners, public toilets are often remembered by what they lack—fresh air, cleanliness, and the simple comfort of safety. They gather the grime of neglect: lingering smells, slippery floors, dim corners that feel uninviting even from a distance. Yet a place meant for everyday dignity should never feel like a last resort.

So the question becomes architectural, but also deeply human: how do we transform the way these spaces are felt?

This redesign concept addresses five recurring burdens that shape public experience namely Hygiene, Ventilation, Safety, Identification, and Maintenance. At the center of every solution is one guiding idea—permeability. Not just openness, but thoughtful transparency. By increasing permeability across daylight, sightlines, airflow, and approach, the toilet becomes less of a hidden void and more of a gentle civic presence.

Crowning the structure is a green pigmented roof, forming an abstract leaf-like surface. Its shape can vary depending on site and context like finding a different leaf in a different neighbourhood. It turns an overlooked facility into a recognizable series of landmark—making it easier to identify, but also brighter in both a literal and social sense. Beneath this leaf roof, rainwater is collected for reuse, allowing the building to participate in an everyday cycle of care. To ease construction and maintenance, the system is built from modular, prefabricated units assembled into site-specific arrangements. Every location can be uniquely shaped, while the overall concept remains efficient, adaptable, and sustainable.

Under the Leaf, the public toilet is no longer hidden.
It becomes breathable. Clean. Safer. Understandable.

【 DETOUR 2025 ｜ THE SHAPE OF YEARNING 】⁣⁣⁣

The issue of construction waste from temporary exhibitions poses a persistent challenge in every project. Despite exploring various strategies to minimize post-exhibition waste—such as reducing materials, utilizing reusable components, and repurposing items for giveaways—numerous obstacles hinder progress toward zero waste. Key barriers include budget constraints, limited manpower, and uncertainties regarding the management of materials’ second life.

A comprehensive plan is developed to encompass the entire process—from design and fabrication to construction, recycling, and distribution—aiming for minimal waste. When designing the exhibition spatial system, adaptability for future use and recycling potential are prioritized. The objective is to minimize the need for extensive reconstruction, reducing costs, manpower, and time associated with the ‘afterlife’ process. Future structures will be planned and tested in advance, facilitating engagement with new users and stakeholders, which ensures effective completion of the material lifecycle.

Emphasizing the concept of ‘Interbeing’ from Buddhist philosophy, which views materials as conserved entities that interchange throughout their lifecycle, the aim is to reappropriate these states and forms to construct envisioned spaces. The exhibition spaces will act as designed intermediates in this ongoing process.

Just as whisky develops unique flavors in barrels, the furniture created for the event will embody its essence, each piece carrying its own character and story. As they transition to new contexts, these pieces will find harmony with their new surroundings, enhancing their uniqueness.

【 REN @ EAST | ART & COMMUNITY 】⁣⁣⁣

REN @ EAST | Art & Community brings together emerging artists, community voices, and creative practice during Art Month (March) 2026. It opens with a panel discussion “Ideas To Wake Up To” - exploring how art can become more accessible, inclusive, and rooted in the communities around us – creating real pathways for the next generation of artists in Hong Kong – followed by a month-long exhibition at the hotel showcasing myriad works from emerging artists that celebrate the resilience and spirit of the youths of our city.

The spatial design demands a simple yet iconic set up with branding identity for r é n . It also needs to keep the existing hotel lobby in operation intact after the showcase. The concept transforms typical easels for paintings through embedding the logo of r é n as structural elements. Paintings of various sizes and demountable lighting can then be clamped onto the easels while removable tapes are used to anchor temporary wall lamps for artwork display on walls or columns.

【 UABB 2025 】⁣⁣⁣
Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (UABB) 2025 exhibition is titled “Techformance - Technology, Platform, Performance”.
The exhibition unfolds across diverse spatial settings with each structure utilizing a cohesive material palette and tectonic language to establish continuity among the three venues.
The Oi! venue honours the historical arches by creating vaulted spaces for community gathering. In contrast, the East Kowloon Cultural Centre embraces its identity as a hub for art and technology, featuring innovative lab tables that encourage experimentation. Meanwhile, the Hetao Science and Technology Innovation Centre acts as a dynamic portal, linking the two cities and three venues through its curated exhibits.
Through the bending of commonly available industrial aluminum extrusions, we have optimized structural performance by using minimal material and pushing the boundaries of size for a sleek aesthetic. This innovative technique gracefully shapes mesmerizing curves and forms, inviting viewers to engage closely with the exhibits without overwhelming their senses.

【 FOUR HOUSES 】⁣⁣⁣

Four Houses is a proposal that breaks up one pavilion into four different domestic settings to showcase different curation of furniture styles, typologies and scales. The four spaces can be understood as four individual houses or four rooms in a single house. Each is defined by shelving units out of glass that mimics different brick modulations.

We are very honoured to work with renowned artist Zheng Jing on his exhibition at Oi!. Currently on show until 11 October 2026!

【 ZHENG JING’S WAY OF ART 】⁣⁣⁣

Focusing on non-solid media, such as water, sound, air and light, the exhibition interacts with the venue to form a unique ”ecology“, inviting viewers to wander through and rediscover the purpose of art in public space and its relationship to the environment.

During his research and preparation stage, Zheng recorded sounds and conducted spatial scanning in various public spaces throughout Hong Kong. By integrating these elements, he breaks and reconstructs the boundaries of time and space in a novel way, creating a unique resonance of Hong Kong. This exhibition marks the first ”Spatial Ecology Report“ of his career, showcasing both his early and latest works, alongside his international public art initiative, the ”Expeditionary Light“ public art project. This exhibition offers Hong Kong audiences a multi-sensory, interdimensional experience that reflects his unique insights and artistic stance.
