We kicked off the summer with the second edition of EDGE Architecture Festival Budapest — co-curated by Vera Krauth, founder of INDIVIDIN.
EDGE was created with a mission to bring some of the fresh questions, voices and networks of the international architecture scene to Budapest — and, in turn, to connect Hungary more intensely to the conversations happening beyond its borders.
Over two packed days, those conversations stretched far beyond architecture in its narrow sense.
Vera moderated the roundtable of iNCEPTION, a section exploring the intersections of architecture and design, featuring the one and only Erik Kessels, Thomas Widdershoven of Studio Thonik, and the Hungarian de_form team, Nóra Demeczky and Enikő Déri.
One of the things we loved most about this year’s programme was its range of scales and perspectives. A packed international roundtable on Rákosrendező and the mechanisms and consequences of large-scale urban development could be followed by STRANGER THINGS: research-based, more-than-human and ecologically focused practices questioning what it means to be an architect in 2026.
This plurality is also why EDGE matters to us at INDIVIDIN. We believe that design doesn’t begin with form, but with understanding the systems, ideas and questions behind it. Architecture, objects, art, cities, ecology and culture are never isolated fields — and some of the most interesting work happens exactly where their boundaries become blurry.
Seeing so many different perspectives, disciplines and people meet here in Budapest — people genuinely invested in thinking about where our profession is heading — felt important.
And doing all of this in the atmosphere of a summer festival, with conversations continuing outside the lecture hall, made it even better.
