Nobody thinks about the shower.

You’ll get told about the tap water on day one. Nobody mentions that most villas run on bore water, and that you’ll be standing under it every morning and every night for a fortnight.

Hard water carries iron and sediment. Over two weeks that’s brittle ends, blonde turning brassy, and skin that feels tight and itchy in a way you’ll probably put down to sun and salt.

A filter takes two minutes to fit and comes off the day you leave. It’s the least dramatic thing we hire out. It’s also the one people message us about afterwards.

“Cot provided” is doing a lot of work in that listing.

We’ve seen what turns up. Frames older than the villa. Mattresses so soft they dip. Gaps at the edge you can slide a hand into — which is all it takes for a head to end up somewhere it shouldn’t. Slats spaced for looks rather than for a body. Netting draped in, and a blind cord hanging over the rail, because nobody moved the cot away from the window.

Every one of those is fine here. There’s no code, no inspection, nobody arriving to check the thing your baby sleeps in for two weeks.

So we bring our own. New, firm, standard-compliant, delivered and built before you arrive. And we’ll move it away from the window while we’re there.

We’d quietly like to retire our water-based sterilisers. People keep choosing them anyway — because they’re a dollar a day cheaper.

Here’s what that dollar buys you.

Bali water is hard. Steam sterilisers boil it, and everything the water was carrying stays behind — mineral scale on the plate, film on the teats, a machine that clogs and slows within weeks. Boiling handles bacteria. It doesn’t handle what’s dissolved in it.

UV uses no water. Nothing to fill, nothing to leave behind, dry at the end of the cycle instead of sitting damp on a bench in 30° humidity.

One dollar a day. Across a ten day holiday, ten dollars. Roughly one coffee, split over a week and a half.
